Have you gotten sick from the Oral Typhoid Vaccine?

I just started with taking my malaria pills and the typhoid vaccine in the last four days. The malaria pills are okay.........I've had very active dreams, but that's about it.

The typhoid pill is a whole other demon. The first dose was okay until I ate 4 hours later. I was so sick for about a day in a half. I couldn't hold down any food. Is this normal? If I had the vaccine in me for at least 4 hours and then vomited like crazy does that mean it's in my blood stream? Or should I be getting another pill to make up for it. Sorry to be so graphic.......I'm on my second pill today and feeling sick all over again. I just need to know if this is normal.

when are you leaving for India? I took Malarone and you only have to start it one or two days before you leave. Had no problems, no reactions with it whatsoever.

As for the typhoid oral, I was fine until the 3rd pill, and then I only felt a little queasiness in the stomach for a day, no nausea, no vomiting, no big deal. I took the 4th pill two days later and I was fine. Are you taking them everyday or something? because the dosage is one pill, every OTHER day.

I just did my typhoid course a couple of weeks ago and didn't have any trouble with it.

They're supposed to make it through your stomach and into your intestines before the coating breaks down, and after four hours it should have been past your stomach; I doubt that you threw up the pill. Are you easily susceptible to food poisoning or stomach upset?

I just started taking mine yesterday and my stomach has been upset all day today.. weekend is coming up and im hoping this goes away...

Don't know why you're doing the oral typhoid medication versus the injections. Sounds like you're really uncomfortable with the pills! You may want to contact whoever prescribed them for you to ask about the side effects you're having.

I also live in the Bay Area. The Department of Public health in San Francisco has an excellent vaccination clinic/travel clinic located @ 101 Grove St., right next to City Hall. Higly recommended for anyone living in our area. (You don't have to live in S.F. to go there) The typhoid injection (and if I remember correctly, you get two injections spaced a week or two apart) will give you a sore arm for a few days...but I'd rather have that then puke!

This clinic can also give you a prescription for Malarone, which you can then take to Cost-Co to fill for the cheapest prices around. It is pricey stuff, but consider the alternative, malaria. I really disliked those "active dreams" and other side effects associated with the other malaria medication, which I believe you're taking, the once a week stuff? It is also known to have other side effects for some people, like nervousness and depression.

Once I tried Malarone, I won't ever take anything else. You have to take it everyday instead of once a week....but its way easier on the system.

I'm taking the pills every other day as instructed.....on an empty stomach and waiting at least two hours before eating. At this time I'm okay, just a bit uncomfortable. I leave to India next Thursday (gone for a month) so I think I may just have to suffer through the side effects.

I just did the oral meds because that's what the doctor ordered...besides a few less shots were fine by me. See what I get

Good to know about Costco....my friends are getting robbed filling prescriptions. I figured out that the insurance company (at least mine) will not cover more than a months supply of meds. A trick around this is to fill a month and get refills the following month, granted you have time.

Is Malarone for the Malaria? The malaria pills are fine. I took that and was okay. I'm also curious if both of them together are making me sick.

It's all worth it in the end. A little nausea and vomiting won't stop me

I'm jazzed to be leaving soon.

We did the oral regime (it was a big plus for my then little boy and his injection traumatized dad) and had no problems. Sounds like an individual reaction which happens even for Malarone..

I normally got sick from the injection (mild fever and/or stiff and hot arm). I never had any problems with the oral form.

Sita, I got my vaccinations at SF Public Health and they recommended the oral typhoid to me; the protection lasts longer than that of the injection.

I had no stomach problems at all from this.

I just finished the 4-course oral typhoid vaccine and had no problems at all. I haven't taken Malarone but I will next month when I go. The doctor I consulted with instructed me to start taking Malarone the day before I arrive in India, and 7 days after I leave.
