Oh yeah , that`s right I forgot the cow that tossed me off the path in Dhasa... but that was my own fault for being too familiar

Anyway, it was a homeric battle to convince him to vacate the premises.
Good Lord! Hope you had that Pepper Spray with ya... Now that you say it... we DID have rats on our roof and one time one of them FELL in to our house!!! All of us got on the bed, and the whole deal was really SCARY... Eventually we got him out of there (trustworthy ol pepper spray did the trick) but we never found out if he was acctually attacking us or WHAT the hell he was doing....
Spray first ask later if you know what I mean.

I hope and pray THAT never happens again.....
God bless ya all.

One more good reason to take a pepper spray to India (wish I had one).

Come to think of it, the greatest risk of assault in India is probably from cows in crowded markets who like to swivel their horns at groin level.

On my very last day in India, in Paharganj, one thankfully flat-skulled member of this holy species slammed its ear against my thigh with such force that I tripped - and I try not to think about the consequences of a curved horn hitting me at that delicate height...

Once jumped by a group at a rail platform in a dicey suburb of Mumbaii. My "radar" wasn't working or the setup would have been painfully obvious. No injury just some minor loss..

I was knocked into an open sewer by a crowd fleeing a charging a bull. Some nice people picked me up, took me to the well, and cleaned me off.

Mouse attacks !

On my first Asian trek I slept in Bagarchap, Nepal where an unknown furry animal (not good at identifying species with my feet ) repeatedly tried to snuggle in at the foot opening of my sleeping bag. When I managed to tell this with my sixteen Nepali word vocabulary at breakfast, the father in the family proudly installed mini bear traps the next night next to my bunk, proving two things :

1. the cure may be worse than the disease : worried allnight about getting out of bed half-awake for a pee and being mauled by the traps

2 it never happens where/when you expect it : the next time I had an unwanted guest in my sleeping bag it was under an apple tree at home : a hedgehog who not only refused to be keep out but also bit me in my foot and knee.

I was watching an earcleaner doing it's job and sort of had a little chat as we were talking I saw a thin man holding one hand behind his back , from 20 meters on I saw him coming straith at me , he came up real close and had a good look at me , then he softly said : "you American?" I tried to see what was in the hand he was hiding behind his back, and discovered that it was a knife , In my worst English I shouted " America No Good!!!" he did not believe me because he asked again : "you American??" at that time other people started to get involved , ignore Him he is a local grazy guy , thats when I really got scared, How Am I going to get out of this !!.

Then it struck me , that he was coming from behind a market boot, if anything cures people from their sickness it's business , so I asked the guy , what do you Sell ??

Then his face changed , and he immediatly walked towards his boot, I just followed him to the boot , and when he got all in position to show me his stuff , I waived goodbye and left him standing there with Him mouth open.

I was never attacked in india, i feel london is pretty safe but you can never account for the person you might meet who is.....to put it ignorantly and bluntly mentally ill or on drugs.
I have seen many many of those in london, and amsterdam.

You know it's funny all this talk of problems in India, possible violence, robbery, etc. etc.
I like many others here have done my fair share of "bumming" around.
And all my years of travel I have come up against these things twice!
I caught someone trying to steal my pack when I was getting of the bus in Edinburgh!!!!
And was very nearly attacked by two drunken youths in................ Inverness!!!
Both times in my OWN country!
A little bit of Scottish "charm" saved the situation in both cases
Maybe that's why nobody will ever persuade me that India is a dangerous or unsafe country to travel.
By the way no I never been attacked in India.
Unless you count the crazy man behind me at the barbers in Jaipur, He went through every Bollywood/Kung fu fight scene ever seen, with sound effects, as I sat calmly getting my hair cut!! Bizzare but not in the least bit dangerous!

I was "only" robbed once in my lifetime.... and that was in my hometown !!!

In INdia i was only attacked a couple of times my some "lovely" dogs

but then I really had to figth for my life!!!

I was once attacked in orrcha by 3 huge dogs(well somehow it was my own
fault..I crossed some familys rice field..so they only wanted to protect them)

butnevertheless I hate Indian dogs...

I nearly was attacked in bhagsu nath some years ago:

we were going from mcleadganj to bhagsu, being completely drunk and stoned,in the middle of the nigth, when suddenly some 10 kashmiri guys with big sticks appeared yelling at us"we beat you to death" "we kill you"
well we thougth our last minutes arrived....after a lot of talking they decided not to beat us if we would give them the rest of our whisky(half bottle!!)

but that time some foreigners were really beaten in the nigth time by these assholes....

a swiss guy was beaten very badly another nigth...

he didn t dare to go to the police because he was into heavy drug trafficking...

we went to the police, but nothing happened....
maybe the police were too lazy or too afraid to go out in the nigthtime themselves.

but apart of this experience I always felt very safe in India and didn t have any major problems..

I went for a walk at about midnight close to Lumding train station, 4 young men started talking to me, something didn't feel right, they kept looking around as if to see if anyone could see them, there was nobody else around, I quickly got back into the station.

Though I had been for a few walks around the station without any problems.

Only problem I ever encountered travelling in Asia was when a brawny teenager grabbed my hand to shake it. He wouldn't let go and started squeezing as hard as he could. My worry at the time was that I was being set up for a pick-pocket or worse. Guess I could have ended it at any time, but would have had to get nasty and was concerned that his friends might pitch in. Eventually the guy gave up and we both parted with sore hands. Perhaps he was just showing off for his buddies. This was in the area of Kabul known as chicken street. Wonder if he playing chicken with me? Saw dust ups between Afghanis in the bazzar, and had no desire to get embroiled in one of these.

I have only been robbed once......In Jamaica. I was swimming in the ocean when a lovely man came out of the forest and grabbed my bag with everything I owned! I ran through the jungle in my swim suit after the guy and after about 15 minutes I realized I was lost and the guy was long gone! I did find my way back and a nasty case of poison ivy. I went to the police and they were out looking for the guy right away....with large guns, they said they would shoot him if they found him!! I was mad but...not that mad!
In India I was scammed but never assulted.
