H1N1 and Private Hospitals
A friend in Delhi has just told me that private hospitals are not allowed to admit patients with swine flu? Having seen some Government Hospitals in India, they are not where you want to be if you're not fully fit! Great doctors and nurses, but the facilities are very basic.
If you are planning to travel around India - I'd recommend you get the new flu vaccination (if it's available and safe) before your trip. |

Don't know about the private hospitals -seems like a strange story- but what I do know first hand is that voluntary isolation at home is allowed. Also, unless you're in a risk category you won't need admission to hospital with H1N1, it's not the doomsday virus that most people thought it was a couple of months ago.

So far ash Chennai is concerned, I seem to remember reading that some private hospitals have been authorised for treating swine flu patients. I wouldn't discount what your friend says: it may have been true, it may still be true in some places.

Yes - I agree that it sounds like a very strange rule ... but my friend's son had severe bronchitis before he got H1N1, so needed oxygen. No private hospital in Gurgaon/Delhi would take him because of this 'rule'.
So I just thought it was worth posting so people can be aware of a possible issue. |

Update on the H1N1 and private hospitals ...
It turns out that it's the private hospitals in Delhi that told the government that they are not able to take H1N1 patients. Government hospitals are not good under normal circumstances and are now overloaded. So don't get flu in Delhi. Old news report - but it's still deadlock. http://http://indiatoday.intoday.in/swineflu/index.php?option=com_content&t ask=view&id=56590&Itemid=1&sec tionid=121&secid=143&site=swin eflu |
