Going to India in summer... Is it a very crazy idea?

Hello guys.

This is a fantastic page! Thank you for all the information you post here. Very useful! You're all doing a great job here..

I have a few questions and I hope you won't mind helping me out.
My boyfriend is going to India next month, but I can only join him in June (hopefully). I'd like to spend about 2-3 months there, which... I know well... is a monsoon time there. I can't loose this oportunity because that's probably the only chance for me to see India. So I think I'll go despite of rainy season. Is it dangerous? I mean, malaria and all other deseases? As far as I know they're the most dangerous during monsoon, aren't they?

Do you think I'm mad?
Please say I'm not!!

I was thinking... Maybe it doesn't rain that much in the North? What's the weather like there in June? Is it hot or cold at that stage? Does it rain a lot? Also I'd love to visit Kerala and Goa because I hear it's amazing over there.

I also want to get my teeth done in India and I'm sure that will take a good while, so I would concider going somewhere where I could find a good dental clinic. At least for a few weeks and then to go somewhere else..

Your help would be very much appreciated
Thanks in advance!

Just go up to the mountains to avoid the rain.

I got my teeth done in Delhi - root canal treatment, it was world class, I got the place out of the LP, I think it was near the medical centre that all the travellers use.

It does not rain too much in the northern parts especially Delhi where it starts raining only around July end. Most parts of Rajasthan are also dry with not much rainfall but it is also the hottest part of the year there. Dental treatment should not be a big problem as long as you get it done at a good clinic in the main city areas of New Delhi. Nowadays it is possible to get good and quick root canal treatment in one day instead of three to four sittings in Mumbai and should also be possible in Delhi.

Cheers,
Aadil.

ilolo - If you go to the mountains in June you will have a lovely time - in the North consider Himachel Pradesh or Uttarakand. In Dharamsala, McLeod Ganj, and Mussoorie there are excellent dentists who do work with foreigners too. In any of those places you will have nice temperatures plus your dental work done in comfort. Delhi in June is horrendous - you just have to have air conditioning.. Don't consider anywhere else in June in Rajasthan - it's sand and dust storms and extremely hot with temps up to early 50'c.

Even if I'm dreaming of India and feeling ready for anything, there's no way I could handle 50'C
So I guess the north will be the best option for me.
I just have to make a decision and then I can start looking for a dental clinic.
thanks a lot for your advices

Monsoon moves up the West coast ie. South to North. Hits Mumbai June 10th. Bring an umbrella!

Technology may have moved on, but I'd be a bit suspicious of a one-day root canal.

It is necessary to know that the tooth has been sterilized before finally filling and crowning it. If any infection is left, it is a waste of time, money, and probably the tooth. That, unfortunately, is something that I have experienced, and that treatment was not at all rushed.

Couldn't agree more, Nick. OP hasn't mentioned root canal though, it might be some other work.. Also, one thing to be aware of is that it is often proposed when not necessary. One dentist in Delhi told me I needed five caps with root canals doing - the one I went to in Mussoorie (and I will keep on going to him) who has trained in Germany specializing in crowns and bridges, did beautiful work on one cap for me (without root canal therapy) which was necessary and said the rest were not! Good news as far as I was concerned. Delhi dentist maintained some of my Oz fillings (amalgam) ought to be replaced but Mussoorie man said why disturb a good job when they are not causing any problems? I concluded the Delhi fellow was more concerned with making money than my teeth.

well I don't expect to get everything get in a short while. I'll take my time because I want to get everything done properly. I need to get a root canal treatment on a few teeth, an implant and some aesthetic filling. price is important, but not that much as I really want to get a good job done. it would cost me a fortune in where I'm living at the moment

Perhaps you should look in the Health threads where good dentists are recommended too, ilolo. You could plan your stay around the area where the dentist is! I'd be heading for the hills if you intend staying a month. June is absolutely unbearable down on the plains.
