Going Commando
I need to ask a question regarding coverage of the nether regions. Can one successfully navigate the Indian sub-continent without wearing underwear? I am planning to be in India from July and hate wearing the underroos unless I have too. If the pants are breathable and not too tight fitting can I get away with it? Are there any fellow IM’er who can shed some light on an area that does not often see the sun shine

Mate,
It was winter when I was there but have been in hot moist environments before - and ladies and some gents you might like to look away - as long as the area is clean and dry you don't have to worry about crotch rot. I guess your answer depends on how much walking you do. I trecked for 10 days and no problems. Even regular rain and humidity wont be a problem. Hell we are talking about losing one layer of cotton. |

something to keep in mind is that a lot of times the cushions on buses and trains might not be exactly soft or cushy
...a poke here there., an exposed nail?.....a torn leather scratch... eeek...the extra layers help at times.. |

i wish i could wear the dhoti (or lungi or veshti) like some of my uncles do and commute everywhere~ fold it up the knees for longer strides..and then fold it even more above the long strippy boxers..(like a deep south village hick
) .....nothing like that for a airy dress ... |

OK, pic is very graphic!
It differs from 70's suggestion in 1 simple way; instead of a sash first, use a black thread. Called 'arena kayiru' in Tamil, they use it for babies to tie the nappies and for kids and adults as a good luck charm with a amulet tossed in(knotted near the hip). The cloth is hooked into the thread as shown. God, the things which people ask for in this forum..... ![]()

Thongs are best worn under something in IMHO, a friend wears one and has a good body, however it didn't stop my Glaswegian friend from asking on Palolem beach; why there was a string hanging out his arse

I hope you are refering only to the bottom half..
Be mindful of the extra attention and extra pinches/gropes you can get if you go bra less!! Now I think that topic has been discussed before in depth and you may do a search for that...

sun-dreamer, Another factor to consider while making your decision is whether you sweat much or not, in the... ahem ! nether region ! July will be a pretty humid month in most of India.

Commando works best if your pants are nice and baggy so some fresh air can get up there and keep you dry. Even so, I'd prefer underwear with talcm powder in them to prevent chaffing. Also putting on fresh underwear around mid-day can help.
