Glasses
Hi everyone.
I'm new to this forum wow, what a resource!! Most of the questions I had have been answered already, by looking back though previous threads. Just a few left now! I'm off to India for 6 months as part of a year out from work. I'll land in Delhi, I don't intend to stay long, before heading north to Himachal Pradesh, then back down to Kerala. I just need to rent my house and give a month's notice at work, then I'll be on my way. Anyway enough of that; my questions: I've recently had an eye test, I've been told I need varifocals, these will cost in the region of 200 GBP. Is it worth hanging on for a couple of months to get a pair or two in Delhi? How much might they cost? how long might it take for them to be made? Anyone know a reputable Optician they could perhaps recomend? Thanks. |

Hi Ricco
Get your glasses when you arrive they are a quarter of the price compared with uk prices and take between 1 & 3 days depending on how busy they are. good luck in your travels |

Makes total sense to get your glasses done in Delhi. A week is the max they'll take. And prices should be very very attractive....

& do try it after you get used to haggling. Not the aggressive way but the same way in which you'd be prepared to walk down to the next optical/spectacle shop if you're not satisfied.
Find out a couple of them. step in and ask a quote for your prescription. try to negotiate and if you're unhappy, leave. There's always another one. At the same time, recognise when you're starting to act like a total w**ker! where you look ridiculous trying to beat him down by another 50/25 Rs.Though upmarket shops, you'll hardly get any leeway in price.

i just bought a pair of varifocals in Bangalore. Nice shop, extreme woman, but efficient.
They cost, all fitted, with groovy lightweight lenses, and nice modern frames, 1500 rupees. I could have paid up to 5000 or 6000, but these were just as good. No pressure either. They made them in 36 hours. In Australia, they start at 9000 rupees. ![]()

I was thinking of getting new glasses made before heading off on my journey, but I think I'll just get them made in Calcutta. Anybody had any experience getting glasses made in Calcutta? |
