Sorry, never had any sideeffects from any immunisations
But I'm sure it'll pass as all that vaccinations ussually do is expose you to a small amount which allows your body to repel it and thus able to fight it if you did catch it

So you'll be fine in a day or so with a full power 24 hour immune system

Unhappy Not So Bad

Hi, this would be my first posting, as I have not yet been to India but will be there in about a month..But I can answer this one...I had my Typhoid and Dyptheria/Tetunus shot yesterday. I only had slightly sore arms (one shot in each arm), however, last time I had Typhoid in pill form I really felt icky for a few days..
The good thing about the Typhoid pill is that it lasts 7 years where as the shot lasts only 3...

When I got my Yellow Fever shot a few years ago, I thought I was going to die..

I had the oral typhoid vaccine and did NOT get sick from it. Each body reacts differently, however; hope you're feeling better soon.

typhoid some interesting bits of advice

Vaccines are not compulsary, beyond yellow fever vaccine in some countries.

typhoid is usually contracted from contaminated water.

Did yu know that water in copper vessels is decontaminated by the copper? This is why indians for centuries have used copper vessels:

'Circa 200 B.C.: A Sanskrit manuscript observes that "It is good to keep water in copper vessels, to expose it to sunlight, and filter it through charcoal."
http://www.state.ak.us/dec/eh/dw/pub.../historic.html

' see people carrying away Ganga Jal in copper and earthenware vessels for various rituals at home'

There are articles demonstrating the use of copper vessels in decontaminating water in journals like the British Medical Journal, early in the 20th century

but if your worry is delhi belly, then this can be treated homeopathically: with remedies like arsenicum album

in india, a better drink than water(and far safer) is coconut juice, widely availabe in the south, and also in sri lanka, from street vendors

I got sick after pill #2

I started feeling queezy almost immediately after swallowing my second pill and threw up one hour and 20 minutes after taking it (yes, I was worried so timed it). I was worried but the pharmacist said that since my tummy was empty (it was first thing in the morning) then it was absorbed in about 1/2 hour. Pill #3 tomorrow...and better not get queazy b/c I have an early meeting at work, yikes!

When I did yellow fever a few years back I did get a small ucky cold.

typhoid

I remember having it 10 years ago and just recently again and never got sick. Perhaps you were a bit under the weather anyway. Different bodoies react differently. Didn't have the pill form though so prhaps its a dodgy bulking agent thats in the pills that are making people feel ill?? I'm having japanese encephalitis (2 shots) £80 It's not funny paying out for that but i have been recommended strongly by my doctor to have it as i'm travelling all over India waht do you think about this? are you haveing this jab?

Hi Cheryl, I did have a headache that morning so perhaps that triggered it. Was fine with pill #4. Not getting Japanese E., doesn't seem as recommended from this side of the pond! I am also torn about Malaria stuff, I will be there in December and wonder if the risk will be decreased significantly. I will be in the south for about 2 weeks. When are you going?

malaria etc

Hi misha
Zelgar here (cheryl) I'm going 17th Oct to Delhi, heading north to ganges, Dharamsala,Manali , varanasi, for trecking, poping to Amritsar then down to Goa for xmas, then Kerala for a month or 2. Planning to stay with family hosts, budget hotels, and work at an orphanage near Kerala, so feel it's probably necessary to take all medicines recommended. I met a girl yesturday who had a friend who got dengue fever. she was really ill. Don't know what to do about protecting myself from that. malaria pills i think are a good idea especially for the south and maybe Delhi but the north is ok in the winter months from what i've heard. We here in the UK are used to hard medicines. our bodies are not used to gentle natural remedies Ayurvedic herbals etc so I unfortunately malaria pills are something we should take i guess. My friend hasn't had any vaccines and he's had hepititis b and got bit by a dog and had a shot of tetinis out in India to prevent rabies. I love life too much and don't want to risk catching disease so have had most of the recommended vaccines. It's a shame life is like this but thats natures way so............. anayway good luck on your travels

typhoid pills

i just took pill #2 of the 4 i have to take for the typhoid vaccination- and i am feeling like crap it gives me really bad stomach cramps as well as flu like symptoms. i am under the understanding that vaccinations simply put a small 'does' of the disease in your body so it can form the antibodies to fight it- so feeling sick is normal. but if you feel too sick then call a doctor- because you could be reacting to the medication. i really wish i had taken the shot instead of the oral medicine. here i was thinking i was saving myself from another jab- but this feeling is much worse

you live, you learn...
