Unhappy Getting Nowhere

Hi Im off to Delhi pretty soon and it's my first trip. I am having problems finding out what injections I need.
I live in Spain + my Spanish is poor[sheepish] . I went to see my private doctor, who said I need to find out from the hospital what the latest injections are. The local hospital DIDNT know??? I was given several phone numbers for a larger hospital in the city - but none of them answer the phone.
I have managed to conclude I need the following:

Polio
Tetanus
Typhoid
Hepatitis A
Yellow Fever
Malaria Tablets

Anything I have missed?? Do I need an injection for Cholera and for Hepatitis B?
Any help would be much appreciated.

get to the docs quick my friend!!
You dont have long before you leave!

About hep B - I didnt bother, its only transmittable the same way as aids/hiv. Unless you engage in high risk practices, suchas sex/needle sharing, then the chances of getting it are remote.

about cholera: as a general rule docs dont vaccinate against this anymore as the vaccine is said to be generally ineffective. also, I think the side effects of this are quite bad.

about the others - you dont need yellow fever (its only for s.america and africa).

Did you have the tetanus/polio when you were at school? I think this is good for 10 years.

Definately hep A and typhiod.

With the malaria tablets - its your call. I was taking them but they made me sick, my hair was falling out, so I stopped taking them and used extra precautions against mosquito bites. I have had no trouble (yet!), but this is entirely up to you.

the lonely planet is a good source of info about all this, and also try the centre for disease control (cdc) - both accessible online.

good luck!

the cholera thing:
I had 5 or 6 times shots against cholera and I never had any problems with it...not the slightest sideeffects...nothing..
but as I said every immunesystem is different...what s good for me doesnt
have to be necessacrily good for you...
but shots like polio tetanus everybody should do!!!

Yellow fever is only necessary if you're going to (or from) South America or Africa. It's unknown outside of those regions...
