You can call up your doc to find out. You may need boosters which usually mean you get the first dose like 3 mos prior to getting the booster, in some cases

Last trip I got Typhoid, Hep A+B (series of 3 shots), and Polio (I think it was a drop rather than a shot), and took Doxycycline for malaria. I should say I brought Doxycycline, as I didn't end up taking it a lot of the time anyway, it was January and I was in HP most of the time - not a mozzie in sight!

This time I'm getting Measles, Mumps + Rubella (all-in-one shot), Japanese Encephalitis, Meningococcal and Tetanus. I know a lot of you guys are too brave to get these shots (or too chicken of needles ) and have no problems at all, but I don't want to turn into a nutcase if there's a sick person sneezing on my bus
And I'm bringing and taking Doxy, once I move into a more temperate area.

Might have to change my title to "Human Pincushion"!

I MADE IT!!!

It was SO easy!! I was a big baby for NOTHING! You should have seen my face after she gave me the shot ... I was in shock. It hurt for a second and then nothing! No pain whatsoever! (my arm hurts now though)

The only shot I got was the Hep A and B combined. I still have to go back and get my other 2 doses but I won't mind so much. I took the Typhoid pills instead and those are only 4 pills. She gave me a prescription for malaria but I still don't know if I will take it. My husband may make me. I told him that he should take it too since he hasn't been back home in 5 years. He didn't like that idea! When I go back in a month I will take the flu vaccination too. They aren't out yet. I will make my husband get that too

I may get my tetnus booster from my Primary Care Doctor since that one is covered under insurance. Not looking forward to that one!

Someone had a question about when to get the vaccinations ... Hep a and b lasts for 30 YEARS so anytime is good. Typhoid last 5 years so anytime is good too. Malaria is taken by pill and depending on the type of pill, depends on when you start taking it. Anywhere from a week before departure up to 2 days prior.

Side effects ..... 1 in 14 people get tired from Hep A .. Of course I'm the 1! 1 in 5 get headaches ... I'm the 1! 1 in 2 gets arm pain .. I'm the 1! I don't feel too bad though. Thyphoid pill makes me nauseous.

But I'm at work and doing fine. Anyone nervous about shots .. don't be! Unless it's the tetnus

Yes, tetanus was the only one that was a pain....literally, my right arm hurt for 3 days and for two of those days I could barley lift it up! (I was the 1 as well!)
Well worth it though! and now I'm good for at least 9 more years~

I'm surprised you got pain from the tetanus injection. It's usually thyphoid that makes your arm sore and 'heavy' feeling afterwards.

Some of you have mentioned typhoid pills - I'd never heard of these before, but then you can get typhoid combined with Hep A in one shot (Hepatrix I think they call it) so it doesn't have to be an extra injection anyway.
