don't you carry a fluids bag and a giving set?
On an ambulance, yes. In the Himalaya, no. Saline is a short-term volume replacement, which can be useful for increasing bp, primarily in cases where a patient has lost or is rapidly losing fluid (such as blood). In the mountains, the chances of you getting to a hospital for blood transfusions and surgery in a timely fashion is low in most places. Self-administration of a bag of IV fluids that has been carried in an uncontrolled environment presents a high possibility of infection, and could complicate internal bleeding, among other problems.

No beef, I'm just trying to be reasonable.
