Eating Chicken???
With all this bird flu kerfuffle going on, is anyone concerned about eating chicken in India?
We're going in 1 week and were planning to avoid it. What are your thoughts????![]() |

I wouldn't have even thought about it! I don't know if there are that many chickens/birds actually imported into India anyway, there seem to be enough around.
Better safe than sorry though, I probably won't eat it when I go to Thailand in February unless this business has died down a fair bit. There are so many other delicious things to eat though, you won't miss the chicken much! |

why bother
The chicken flu will probably not hit you unless you have very close relations with (any) feathered livestock (is that english?). A dead chicken that is properly prepared (cooked through and through) will probably (once agaiun) not hurt you.
But hey, why bother if there are so many fantastic vegetarian alternatives in India? Hans

As long as the meat is thoroughly cooked, you will be OK. Just try to avoid those roadside stalls. In fact, unless it is homecooked, it's better to not take the risk.

You might as well avoid going to India, or stepping out the door for that matter. You're more likely to be killed in a spectacular freak fireworks explosion or something than catch bird flu if you're not working directly with chickens.
I'm not going to avoid it unless it becomes a real problem, and not just a potential one. |

This bird flu issue is being blown up out of all proportions by the medias sensationalism.
I don't think you could even catch it by eating chicken, is'nt it an airborn virus,,,,,,,,, |

I agree totally agree Seventies Mrs cyberhippie was only saying the other day "is it just me or are you sick of hearing about the bloody bird flu"
Seems like you could only catch it if your in a LOT of contact with live afflicted birds!! "It could mutate into something dangerous for humans"..............so what I'm guessing any cold/flu virus can do this!! No doubt we'll be slaughtering a few million birds to solidify the danger of this in the mind of society |

We could not survive India without the chicken,we are strictly nonveg so a few days on vegies and eggs is quite enough.Could not imagine our trips without the delicious chicken dishes we ate, take me back to Aurangabad for the "Special Fried Chicken",Srinigar for the "Chilli Chicken",Kolkata for the "Tandoori Chicken",etc, etc.

Harsh Mumbly joe!
I am not worried about it, nor would I let it prohibit me from completely enjoying myself, I just don't know much about the situation in India and figured it would be easier to just avoid it than having to think about it. |

isn't bird flu only contracted when you spend a lot of time with live chickens?
and i agree with seventies hippy - the whole thing has been blown way out of proportion. the other day a news programme (uk channel 4 for anyone interested) did a piece where they mocked up news reports saying that 50,000 people were dead. i couldn't believe what i was seeing.

Eating chicken and Bird Flu !!!
Well, truely speaking...no reports yet I believe regarding eating prpoerly cooked chicken and subsequently contracting bird flu !! and in India most of the local, finger-licking dishes are well cooked.....fried in boiling oil, I should say....or pressure cooked or boiled or roasted in charcoal fire.....well, have it , in a good joint and more so no reports yet... .
Choice remains yours....whether you would like to replace Chicken Reshmi Butter Masala with Mixed Vegetable Korma ...... ![]() |

You are more likely to develop stomach problems from undercooked fried eggs. My BF had severe stomach problems and we realized the main diffence in our eating was he had fried eggs and I had the yummmy omelettes. He cut out the runny eggs and problem was solved. Breakfast is the one meal I find hard to eat Indian constantly.
As for bird flu, all I have read agrees with the previous posters. |
