Drugs in India - Ayahuesca

Does anyone know of any Daime group in Goa?

A resource such as this link might be a more appropriate place to look for such information.

Thanks Nick. I checked that link but it didn't seem to have any reference to Daime groups in Goa.
(Why do you say 'more appropriate', BTW ? I thought this was a site for all things to do with India. As I live in Goa for six months each year, and my query was quite straightforward, I don't understand why its not 'appropriate' to ask whether there is anyone interested in healing in Goa. )

Best regards, AnnieG

The last drugs thread got out of hand & my guess is they have a tendency to do that, maybe Nick was referring to that.

Since I never heard of what you asked about I googled it and I guess I'd have to agree that maybe Indiamike isn't the place to look for a Brazilian based drug-based alternative religion, even if you do live in India. India has it's own religions and drugs to talk about, plenty, in fact! Of course, if there are people who want to talk about it here, no harm in looking for them! One great thing about India, there seems to be room for everyone's particular "thing."

I've only just joined Indiamike, so please excuse me if I am out of line. It seems a great Forum, and I certainly don't want to p*** anyone off.
Ayahuesca originated from Brazil but is now worldwide - I am currently in Cornwall, UK, and there is a very strong group here. There are groups all over Europe (particularly Italy and Holland) and the US - hence my question as to whether there was one in Goa.
There are lots of sites which explain:
*what it is (organic product from a vine)
*and what it does (gives a hallucinogenic experience lasting around 4 hours)
*and the context in which it is usually taken (not recreational but healing or spiritual, often interpreted as religious but that's only because it has emerged from a strongly Catholic country and has assumed Catholic trappings and ritual)
*and the effects (can be very strong with hallucinations and also profound physical and spiritual transformations)
There are many stories of terminal cancer patients receiving radical healings after taking ayaheusca, and spiritually confused people seeing clearly how their lives should progress, and I haven't heard any stories of substance abuse associated with it. All the people I've met who take it treat it with huge respect, hence the quasi-religious context of most 'sessions'.
Hope that's helpful, and not out of line,
Best regards, AnnieG

Mmm, yes, in a gentle sort of not-for-me-to-say-anyway-not-being-a-moderator way, that is exactly what I was trying to say.

I too had to google to find out what it was about.

I won't engage in conversation about the issue, I don't think it is appropriate here --- of course others may feel different.

There are lots of Daime groups here in Brazil and there is no tendency of abuse of the plant. Its taken in sacred rituals and it is quickly associated with religion, not recreational use.
Im surprised to know that it goes beyond our country though.

Ooops, Yes, I know that 'drugs' along with 'religion' and 'politics' can be red-rags-to-a-bull topics and raise lots of strong feelings. I don't want to get into one of 'those' debates.
Perhaps I ought to add that I am a 55 year old grand-mother, and although those facts wouldn't stop me from doing what I want to do, I am certainly not a 'druggie' and don't take any recreational drugs these days. I don't go to Parties (although my husband does) and I *HATE* Goan Trance music. :-)
Just so you don't think that my interest in Ayahuesca is purely recreational - my interest is for physical healing and spiritual development. And that's what this particular drug is for. The term 'drug' can be misleading, as it is in this case.
So, to repeat my original query .... Does anyone know of a Daime group in Goa?

Annie, what you take and why you take it is entirely up to you. You do not have to justify it to me or anyone else.

Why you do what you do, and whether or not I agree with it, is a conversation we might have if we met elsewhere (although my attitude in the end comes down to 'each to their own'...).

Mind you, I have to admit to having asked a question here about a different substance some time back. Don't think I got any answers, though...

As far as I know the ayahuasca cult is not uncontroversial in Brazil even -- for all the wrong reasons if you ask me, but still. I know there was a stink about it some time back in the Netherlands -- drugs you know , brrr, where's my beer. It wouldn't surprise me if such groups exist in places like Goa, nor would it if they don't advertise themselves on public web forums like these.

Good luck with your search.

Did you do a Google search on ayahuasca [not ayahuesca] + goa? Can't say I've followed up on those hits but there seem to be quite a few, be prepared for some whacky stuff (and a band or record label of that name apparently). Combinations with Daime if that's what it's called might also give further pointers.

There is nothing inappropriate about it....not that i've ever even heard of it myself.
This is a place where we can discuss anything about India and I think it was an innocent question. The yoga retreat sounds like a nice place and I think I might go there this winter.
