I forgot to say, for thoes healthyer people there is allways the "ginger lemmon honey" option. No suggar no coffein... But you will not find this at a railwaystation in the middle of the night...
And some places will have fresh mint tea allso... not that common though.

Looking for Marathon Man:

Is it safe?....Laurence Olivier to D. Hoffman in Marathon Man.

One of our members talked about this in another thread. Just looking for him/her! The title reminded me of that thread.

Talking oh my goly india without chai - I dont know???

chai is the quintisential beverage of india, well maybe lasi as well. yes drink it. drink it in a glass, or the beutiful little clay disposables whilst you still can (plastic is taking over) masala (spiced) chai MMMMMM. I drank chai every day for a year and no problems.

Most importantly when stressed, tired, or generally troubled, sit down and have a nice cup of tea.

I'm thinking of staying in India, but I've heard that there is a lot of tea there, and I hate tea drinkers... ... ...

And we (The Brits) stole it from China, looked around for a climate where we could grow the stuff, and found India.

How could you live without chai???? Hot spicy sweet chai ! Never been sick from chai, don't think you need to worry, well you can always get unlucky and served in a dirty glass or food on a dirty plate (or washed in bad water) but some risks you just need to take travelling through India don't you. By the way I was disappointed last time I went on a train and got a teabag in a plastic cup. Is masala chai history ?

Masala chai is not history but it sure doesn't come around as often as it used to!!
Those teabags just ain't the same plus unless you're careful you end up with a half a cup!!. The vendors that get on from the platform usually have proper chai at least, even if it's not masala

Tibetan Tea

I love chai, marsala chai, green tea, english-made tea, hibiscus tea (egypt) any tea -

so have any of you had Tibetan tea (with yak butter)...
and if so, what do you feel about it?

(I can drink it but only one cup -have to refuse refills which is rude. I must get used to it).

If you're worried about a dirty glass/cup etc, why not take a box of drinking straws - wouldn't that help??

Tea sucked through straws

I think it would be an insult to an Indian handing you a glass of tea to drink it through a straw!
I've had countless glasses of tea in questionably dirty places but never got sick.

at the risk of getting howled down, i managed to spend a month in india without drinking a single chai after my first sip. and it wasn't health concerns, i just couldn't stomach that sickly sweet milky mix. and like a few people have said, it sure ain't tea!
but that milky indian coffee - bring it on
