couple of years back, before the renovation the cheese momos were 40, when they reopened they were Rs.60, and now 65...

Not a difference you one feels, but yes inflation has also to be taken into account..

I went through all the pages, a lot of fun

But, I had salt lassi here in California in an Indian restaurant and I loved it. Is it different in India? Too salty?

Also, what's so special about the Varansi lassi? How do I ask for it? We'll be going there so I would like to try...

Mhhhh, Mango Lassi.
I discovered it in India way to late. After I discovered it I would go back to the stall for 3 days always drinking a Mango Lassi.

4th day - "Sorry Sir, we don't have Mango Lassi"
5th day - "Sorry Sir, we don't have Mango Lassi"
6th day - "Sorry Sir, we don't have Mango Lassi"
7th day - "Sorry Sir, we don't have Mango Lassi"
8th day - "Sorry Sir, Mango season is over"

BTW: Stay away from Mango Lassis made out of instant mango aroma. Not the same.

Once a young lassie from benares
drank two lassi's back to back in a tall glass
(with bad ice, I might add),
last seen, she was positively mad
since she couldn't find the toilet paper in the grass.

Forget limericks, I think that some one needs to compose a ghazal (but it won't be me....)

My experience is that despite the fact that it is commonly agreed that lassis should be served cold, about half the time they will be at room temperature if you order them without ice.

The best lassi I had while in India was the cockroach lassi.... it was independence day, and for lack of other open restaurants we were in a place that specialized in south indian breakfast and pizza (never seen that combination before or since!) They had thick creamy lassis in the fridge in earthenware mugs, and it was SOOOO good, that it was half gone before I noticed the dead cockroach. Of course there was no big fuss, the waiter simply bought a new one. The scary thing was that the lassi was so amazing all I could think of was how I scored an extra half lassi!

Q. What's worse than finding a worm in an apple?

A. Finding half a worm in an apple.

Just be glad you found a whole cockroach!!!

Yes, full of gooey protein although I'spect, they would taste better roasted and crunchy.
