There was an alcoholic lady from Varanasi
who decided to drink only the best lassi
she went to Chennai, Mumbai and then Shimla
At last she thought will try Chandigar
but the only drink there was scotch in a glassy

My offering, sad but true:

There once was an old bird from Surrey
Who headed out east to Varanasi
Her friends all cried "Oh!
Whatever you do,
Stay away from that d***ed special lassi!"

True ones are always funnier.

I must have drunk lassi everyday in my childhood. Home made lassi is the best, especially with breakfast. I had some recently when I was back there. No ice, just chilled. ummm.

The was a young traveller named Kelly
Who decided to visit New Delhi
She was feeling a little sassy
So ordered an iced lassi
and wound up with a very sore belly..

Nick said we should make up a limerick
and then left the site pretty da** quick.
From Bordeaux to Varanasi
they all dreamed of lassi
with mango, no ice, but a strong kick

Excellent stuff!

EliVerona could have no idea what she would be starting here: I hope she recalls it as she enjoys her lassi in India!

a lad traveling through Varanasi
was in search of that one special lassi
from papaya to mango
his mind wouldn't tango
but the "Special" one, ah, that was sassy

When venturing to Varanasi
remember to try a sweet lassi
Whether mango or special,
no ice please or else they'll
make you unhappily gassy!

If that's not lesson enough and you want a more graphic version:

A visitor thought it quite funny
to have lassi with mango and honey
but with ice in there too
when she went to the loo
things turned out distressingly runny...

I'm having a mini-limerick obsession here. Your fault Nick!

The Indiamikers decided
That limericks must be provided
but Nick ran away
leaving others to play
and deserves to be thoroughly chided!

ETA I actually did have a special lassi in Varanasi. So, I guess:

If you like to part with your reasoning
Ask for a lassi with seasoning
for all you disobedients
that extra ingredient
will have you laughing all evening!

There once was an old desi from Nantucket
who had only ever used a hand and a bucket
Till one ill-fated day
......

<oops wrong audience .... looking for the bawdy limerick thread >

Probably don't do a lassi when you first get to India. Let your stomach get used to the bacterias for awhile. Varanassi has the best bhang lassis if you really want to add some pizazz to your riverfront walks. Go easy though or you'll end up sleeping along the river. Best shop go to the end of the street from main ghat and there is a little shop on the main intersection when you hit the first large cross street. Happy trails

Karuna just topped them all
with special seasoning?

An Indiamiker, after a drink
once made everyone think:
if the loo's down the hall
is it a problem, at all
to politely pee in the sink?

I am going to stop now or I won't, ever!
