Question Doxy and Thrush?

Have any women had trouble with thrush whilst on doxycycline? Just a bit reluctant to take it as most antibiotics do it to me, but think this is a lower dose, but still concerned. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Take a really good probiotic supplement- on an empty stomach. This will help replace the friendly bacteria which are destroyed by the antibiotics allowing candida infection to take control.

Don't be fooled into thinking that Yakult or Actimel - the little yoghurt drinks containing acidophillius will help you here as they do not contain nearly enough bacteria to have any real affect.

A probioitc supplement is also useful for preventing food poisoning and tummy bugs.

Hope that this helps!

BTW........ reduce your intake of sugar and foods containing yeast whilst taking antibiotics.

I had no problem. Lots and lots of curd may have helped. Also, keep in mind many of the probiotics must be kept cool, which may be a bit of a problem.

Like Casey said, the probiotic tabs that you can buy need to be refridgerated so obviously you couldn't carry them around the country in your backpack!

But what about mega-dosing on them just before leaving? That should go some way to settling the bacteria in your stomach? Then eating lots of curd when you are in India! Yum!

There are a couple of good probiotic products that need no refrigeration. PB8 is one good one that works

I took Doxy for three months on my last trip, and no problems with thrush or yeast infections -- and I don't eat much curd as it doesn't agree with me. And with potential malaria being behind the second door, I'd probably STILL take the Doxy!

We use Lactobacillus capsules where I work, which are stored at room temperature. I bring them with me on trips. The firm says do not store above 30 degrees , and space them at least three hours after oral antibiotics.
