Question Diseases? Malaria?

this is my first time in india, but i have been here over a month now. before i left i did as much research as possible and all the recommendations were to get all possible vaccinations and meds. i didnt have lots of money (i hate those few people who do) so i opted to wait until i arrived so that i could get them for cheaper (someone recommended). of all the people i have spoken to so far, i havent heard of one case of malaria and most travelers i have met have been here for at least 3 months. i havent recieved an injection of any kind yet and was wondering what the overall feeling was for this. anybody encounter malaria or hep a?

malaria pills

I think lots of people go without any malaria pills in India. I was planning to do the same but got bit a few times in Mumbai the night I arrived (ugh) so I went with the Chloroquine/Proguanil combination. I bought seven weeks worth for 312 Rupees -- the Chloroquine was 12 and the Proguanil was 300, dunno why. This was just last week, prices were on the box of Proguanil (so you don't get hosed).

Malaria

Hi,
I never bothered with the the malaria tablets and have never met anyone who caught malaria in India, as far as Im aware though may be wrong..(Can anyone one confirm this for me?) there is no malaria in southern India

In my opinion there is no reason to take malaria tablets in India

As for jags...I got them the first time i went but didnt bother the next 2 times...the worst illness i got was the usual dodgy belly

Hope this helps
Bry
