Disability Access (hotels/monuments etc) in Golden Triangle

Hi,

My mother is visiting me in India for 2 weeks in January. I have two questions and any suggestions would be gratefully recieved. My mother suffers from a muscle wasting disease which makes walking difficult for her (she can manage about 15mins or so), and makes climbing stairs or slopes very hard. We are planning to go round Delhi/Agra/Jaipur/Udaipur and possibly Pushkar, Jasailmer and Jodphur. Can anyone help with the following

1) Any suggestions of good hotels in those areas that are either on ground level or have a lift
2) Monuments and sites that do not involve a great deal of climing stairs or walking

For instance I went to Agra fort a couple of days ago, and that had quite a few steps and slopes leading up to it. That would probably be quite physically hard for my mother.

Tks for any suggestions!

hire some help.

Dont know about accomadation - try lonely planet web site maybe they can help.

For your consideration

Having worked with people with special needs for quit a while I would be inclined to hire a couple of likely lads to carry or wheel your good old mum in regal style. Make it fun. Its not like the old days of the rag your mum probably need the help and around 200 - 400 rps a day would be very good pay for some one in need and so be of mutual benefit to both parties. Ask your hotel owner to organise some lads for you.

second that. at elephanta (i know that's not on your list) you can pay some chaps a very reasonable some to carry you up the steps (very steep, lots of them) in a chair. a few of the girls with us tried it and seemed to find it a lot of fun. so perhaps turning the need into an adventure or something special might help.

hope all goes well.

Hi Ginge, I'm not sure if this is the route you want to go down, but I can recommend a travel agent in Delhi who organise tours for people with mobility problems

http://www.timelessexcursions.com/

I can't recommend these people highly enough, their managing director Renu is an absolute honey and they will go to every length to make your trip as easy and enjoyable as possible.
