dirty bottled water, now toxics in soda

I found an article describing the levels of contamination in Indian bottled water, and now have stumbled upon another article about alarming levels of pesticide residue and other toxics in bottled soda. Of course travelers have come to expect these to be safer than local tap water.
So where does that leave a traveler needing a drink??

Drink bottled water, check the seal to make sure it's legit. If you want, you could use something like Aqua Mira:

yeh Anders!

Yes - Indians brew some fine beer.
But as much as I like it, a simple water, less the "stuff", is very nice too!

Can't drink the water . . . beer is mostly water (especially Indian beer), better not drink that . . . the only sensible solution is gin and tonic . . . the tonic in the quinine will curb that nagging malaria . . .
