Cost of shots New York State or Texas

I have a choice of getting shots in NY or Texas. I'm currently in Texas but I have had a difficult time getting a price,I called two different places in the Houston Med Center, both wanted $60 (consultation cost) before giving me a quote, however I'll be flying out of upstate NY, so I can get shots either place.

The problem is that getting shots in NY will only allow mw two weeks before departure

Does anybody have any cost estimations or leads for either place?

Hi,

I'd imagine New York would be more expensive as everything seems to cost more in New York.

Just for the sake of comparison, I just got all of my shots in Florida. I also had to pay a $60 consultation fee. I paid $47 for the oral typhoid vaccination, $60 for MMR, and polio was also around $50. I also got the Twinrix shot for Hepatitis A and B, which cost $125. My insurance company will pick up part of that cost as they cover Hepatitis B shots. Technically I still need to get another $125 shot to be fully protected from Hep A and B.

I didn't need a tetanus shot, but that would have cost $17.
Japanese encephalitis would have been three shots at $109 a pop. I passed on those. I passed on Rabies too, as that was about $120.

I got a prescription for Malarone as an anti-malarial. I got 21 pills (not enough, I realized after having the order filled) and that would have cost me $140.95 without insurance.I also got Xifaxan for bacterial diarrhea, and 9 pills would have cost $43.95 without insurance.

I hope this helps you.

I would guess that the cost varies more with a state from facility to facility than between states. County health is a good place to start in Texas. Any university affiliation there to exploit at their health center? Shop around if you have the time or use the phone, its your dime..

I second the county health department and they should tell you up front what the costs will be, which are generally much cheaper than through a doctor's office.

There were some vaccines that my regular doctor didn't carry and would have sent me to county health for anyway.

MeCasa, I agree. check out your county's health department. The next county over from me (Chicago area) has travel shots for $12 a pop.

The medical center in Galveston can be a good place to go for more rare shots, and there are always county vaccination centers that are fairly reasonable with prices (I use the one in Dickenson for Galveston county...always a pleasure.)

Hello Yoga, I believe it was your post originally that had me questioning the discrepancies in costs. I was hoping NY had the same kind of program you mentioned, Texas darn sure don't. Do I have to be a citizen of Ill. to qualify, it's not as stupid as it sounds, I have an old friend in Zanesville and I may drive to NY anyway,, Ohio is not far off course and I need to cut costs

Good to hear from you

I appreciate your help but you must be more specific, I have called the Health Depts. of Harris, Brazoria and Galveston Counties, they all gave me the name of Kelsey-Siebold which is a mercenary outfit at best, I know, I've built out lease space for them. Give me a phone number in Dickinson and I'll be eternally grateful

MeCasa, here is the link for the DuPage County Health Department, for travel shots.

Don't know if you have to be an Illinois resident; I know that one does not have to live in that county to get shots as people from my county go there for travel shots.

call them up. good luck to you.
