Condoms - Available and good quality?
Hello,
I've searched a number of places and can't seem to find the answer to this: Are condoms widely available, and are they of good quality? Guides like Lonely Planet suggest bringing your own, but they said the same thing about south america and I haven't encountered any lack of quality in the products sold down here. Can they be purchased easily in many places, and can you find european or american brands, or just Indian ones? Breakage? Thanks, my girlfriend and I |

LOL! Nice question.
One of my first experiences in my new and naive globetrotter ways was having my unlocked bag ripped into flying to India. What went missing was, indeed, a packet of condoms among other things. I later visited a (very nice) young British doctor because I needed a vaccine booster. When the subject came up for some reason, she assured me that for several years she had gotten by just fine with Indian condoms. So there you go. They're widely available btw. I'd carry my own favorite brand just to be sure however, they're enough of a pain in the neck under the best of circumstances don't you think.

you're right, they may function, but how good are they? interesting thoughts. . . we're going for 3 months though, so I'd have to bring an extra bag just for the condoms!

Hm yes maybe all 13,177 members don't need to know your rate of going. I think you can figure it out.

Hyperbole:Largely synonymous with exaggeration and overstatement, hyperbole is a figure of speech in which statements are exaggerated or extravagant. It may be used due to strong feelings or is used to create a strong impression and is not meant to be taken literally. Often used in humor. (source: wikipedia) |

Think About This.....
I work for the department of public health in San Francisco as a registered nurse.
Part of my job is to order condoms to give out to our patients. We order a variety of "brand" names. All of them say "Made in India" on the back of the package. Condoms are available in India, and likely the quality is the same as in any other country. Unfortunately at too high a price for most of the people. Poor people in the US also have difficulty paying the price for condoms. |

That's kind of what I figured. I know they have a large industry producing pharmaceuticals and a huge amount of textiles, so why not condoms? Logically they should be available everywhere there. . .

On the serious business at hand then, I don't know about you but I'd worry less about quality which will probably be OK, just that ending up watching night TV all giggly (or not) after a failed attempt with something less than a snug fit isn't at all unthinkable in my experience.
From one guy to another y'know Speaking hyperbolically and all.(And yes they'll be available from any drugstore-cum-tobacconist or whatever they sell. As already indicated. I don't know about the textiles industry though. The reusable kind went out of style in the early 20th century I think.) |

I could not stop laughing reading your first paragraph "about serious business on hand and snug fit". The most popular brand in India used to be Nirodh - I am no sure about today. Cheers nattusbs |
