Claustrophobia question

Hi...I'll be leaving for India for the first time in about 10 days. I sometimes get claustrophobic and develop anxiety when I'm in confined and/or hot places...I'm 77 years old...did not have this problem when I was younger
I don't know what the sleeper trains are like and I have booked a few overnight trains 2AC...I'd like to know if the sleeping berths are closed off by curtains and if the temperature is kept cool enough etc.
I planned this trip a long time agao...now that it's getting close I'm looking forward to it but getting a little nervous about some things.
Thanks for any input
Richard

There will be curtains for each group of four in 2AC or individually if you are in a side berth. People will usually use these at night.

Its normally cool enough, though I have travelled once when the airconditioning wasn't effective.

If claustrophobic, you can always walk out of the compartment into the common area near the entrance/toilets, and even open the door to let fresh air in. Just stay away from the open door.

Thank you...appreciate your input...I have some prescribed meds for anxiety but like to avoid taking them because they leave me a little hung over the next day...

hi rich

i have the same thing, and was a little anxious about travelling generally. i found that i was so interested in what was happening that i didn't have time to be anxious (truly, the busier i am the less anxious i am), and the trains were not claustrophobic.

have you tried meditation? i find it quite calming, and not drowsy making like the meds. also, if you really want to help yourself might i suggest a book called 'complete self help for your nerves' by a claire weekes. it's my anxiety bible and helped me more than anything else in dealing with it. it's readily available through on-line booksellers.

have a great trip.

Thanks to all of you...funny thing about anxiety...thinking about it makes it happen for me...have tried meditation a few years ago...when I connected it worked well for me but thanks for the reminder...will get back into it...and will also get the book.

ain't that the truth? it's like picking at a scab - if you leave it alone it's fine.
