Chyawanprash
1. Has anyone among IMers been taking chyawanaprash on a daily basis for a considerable time?
If yes, is there a marked benefit that you feel? 2. Is Dabur Chayawanprash good? Or is it another mass-produced poor copy of the original?

Yuck is the word. But then good things usually don't taste good.
Dabur is more practical. There are some Ayurvedic houses who make the 'traditional' ones... anyway don't forget to wash the spoon. That's the only practical advice i can give as far as Chavanaprash is concerned.. ![]() Where is our 'official' ayurvedic consultant...?? |

Ranggs,
I tried Chyavanprash when i was a kid. its tastes yuck..forget the thought of improving memory and energy and all that. I tried giving it to my servant maid, she would not except it. Imagine !! I wonder why Amitabh Bachchan and Saurav Ganguly are advertising it. |

i'v used it a lot in childhood, and found it very good. (nowadays i take it but not regularly, only during winter)
I love the taste too, dont know why people dont like its taste. In school for 3/4 years in a row, i never had a single absenteeism (cent percent attendance, dont know if chyawanprash was 1 of the reasons) But its very good for preventing cold & providing internal resistance to illnesses. Dabur, Baidyanath & Zandu, all the 3 are good. |

Yes, a few years back I was taking Chyavanprash daily. Took it for an year or so.
I took it for allergic bronchitis and it was very effective. The recommended dose is one tablespoon in the morning, followed by a glass of milk or water. It does taste "yuck" at first, but after a while one gets used to the taste. In any case, when one consumes it as a medicine, the taste hardly matters.

I'm hearing from a first person who love the taste ![]() almost every kid is tortured with this ‘tonic’. No wonder Dabur came up with the chocolate flavored version of the chavanprash to lure the kids. The main contents are gooseberry and raw palm sugar, hence that sticky, yucky taste. What they tell about the benefit of Chavanprash is probably right. It improves the memory power. I think it’s right. I’ll never forget ‘those’ days. The taste is still on my toungue.. ![]() |

Well the best way to deal with Chayawanprash is to have it with Glass of hot milk and dont try to swallow the lump .. try to chew it while having a mouthful of milk, it tastes sweet that way.
And it does help in keeping away cold, cough and allergies. Dont know about the memory though ![]() Whichever chyawanprash you are having, TRY to have one which is not more than a month old. |

I dont know much.. but that's what has been prescribed to me by the ayurvedic doctors. I normally have it home made... which tastes worse.. but is better in the theraupatic values.

my favorite brand is "Vedic"; it tastes alright. I got some Dabur when i was in india this year and the taste has changed; not nearly as palatable.
my friend makes rasayanas and sells them via internet worldwide (and is making a very lucrative living as a result). He has a Vata (ashwagandha) rejuvenation one that comes close to chywan prash and it tastes pretty good. Vaidya (doctor) Robert Svoboda recommends taking chywan prash in a split date with an almond.
