chasing the monsoon

I've been to India about 10 times so far, but never in June/July for obvious reasons - the monsoon! I have some work to do in Delhi and Jaipur and have no choice but to go at this time. I'm just wondering if anybody has been to India during monsoon and any helpful tips. I definitely will have an AC room and bringing lots of light clothing and umbrella...just wondering if anybody had any helpful advice... getting nervous! Will try to head to the hills as soon as my work is done! Thanks!

I am still at home in Canada now... will be in Delhi-Jaipur-Rajasthan (and hopefully up north) starting June 19 for 5 weeks.

so if you want to catchup with monsoon, I think you can start with Mumbai or Kolkata on 19th and chase the monsoon as desired.

Not so "obvious" a reason not to go

After five trips to India and almost three years in country I went last year specifically FOR the monsoon. I spent six months, from February through August in Varanasi. While those months, especially late May through August, are not The Best time (The Best meaning for weather) to go, I also believe it's no reason NOT to go. Hot, Oh Yeah! Humid? You betcha! A reason NOT to to go? No. I didn't stay in an AC room, in fact due to the AC demand on the already-iffy electrical situation, the single fan in my room was dormant for a third of the day (and I never knew when it would go out). The monsoon is just another face of India, like the multi-faced Hindu gods . . . another aspect . . . it brings life to the land . . . sweeps the rivers clean(er ) . . . embrace it and you'll be fine.

Enjoy Monsoon

I would say Monsoons are wonderful time of the year if you have time in your hand. It transforms the whole country and provides a different view of the places which have been reinvograted with the Fresh rains. Just will be need to extra cautious when taking longer trips and avoid flooding zones. In other words it has its own charms

thank you all, I am definitely going to "embrace" the monsoon and try to make the best of it... while I'm melting! Are the mosquitoes really bad in delhi and rajasthan around that time?

One advice.. dont use your umbrella all the time. Whats the fun of the monsoon, if you not even gonna get wet
The humidity starts to build up by august, but I think by that time you would be gone.. so .. dont worry.. enjoy !
