Can I buy Epipens in Delhi?

Hey folks, I'm brand new on here, thanks in advance for reading! I'm arriving in Delhi December 6th and hoping to find a couple Epipens when I get there. I need new ones and they're so freakin expensive here! Has anyone seen them at pharmacies around Delhi? (Also hoping to find some Doxycycline, which I hear is pretty available).

Cheers!

Doxy is no problem - and cheap. Be sure to check the expiry date - out of date Doxy can be toxic.

Don't know about epipens.

Very unlikley, and if you do find it, likely to be more expensive. Imported items are unlikely to be cheaper in India.

I think it should be possible. My Ladakhi sister-in-law is allergic to bee-stings and I know she used to have an epipen. It was expensive by local standards, maybe Rs 500, but certainly available locally. I'm sure they're available in Delhi. Do find out the proper medical name for the device & medicine, though, because they may not be known as "epipens."

An epinephrine autoinjector is a medical device used to deliver a measured dose of epinephrine (commonly known as adrenalin) using autoinjector technology, most frequently for the treatment of acute allergic reactions to avoid or treat the onset of anaphylactic shock. Trade names for this device include EpiPen, Anapen and Twinject.

Perhaps some clarification from Nyima Nyinje!!

Thanks for responding everyone. And sorry for the vagueness of my question. Yes, I do mean the epinephrine autoinjector (syringe device) which treats acute allergic reactions...as obione pointed out could also be called Anapen or Twinject. I have a rare food allergy that I'm pretty good at keeping under control (haven't had a reaction in 10 years) but like the idea of having a couple autoinjectors while i'm traveling just in case.

Does anyone know of a common pharmacy in Delhi that i could call and ask about this? Is "Boots" one of them?

I do see what Nick is saying about them being possibly more expensive if they're imported...but hey, worth a shot...no pun intended.

Thanks!

Nick, you have it confused with "steripen" which is a water purification device. "epipen" IS the anti-allergy injection thing.

Diabetics use other things called "pens" -- they hold insulin -- or syringes and vials of insulin.

Hah! Yet again, I am the confused one!

OK, got it now --- and have deleted the quoted post, just in case it misleads others. I guess those of us who are mightily confused should at least try not to spread it.

Thanks for unconfusing me on this one.
