Buying Vitamins in India

Anyone know if it is possible to buy vitamins in India. I am going for 4 months and don't want to carry my supply from home. I need: a daily multi-vitamin, calcium, and Vitamins D and E.

Shirleyart, you can buy vitamins for as little as 5-10 cents/tablet in India. Make sure you choose a good brand though.

How does one identify a good brand if they are unfamiliar? Are brand names similar to those in North America? ie Jameson, Centrum Silver

You won't get Jamieson and Centrum products in India. The most famous brand in India is GSK which is Glaxo Smith Kline.

My wife takes glucosamine all the time, and can buy it at any pharmacy in Ooty (TN).

Many pharmaceuticals that we buy (or are prescribed) in the UK are made in India.

you will probably have a better vitamin balance in India than at home : vitamin D you get from being exposed to the sun, the fruits takes care of vitamin C, and ras malai and other yummy stuff gives you the calcium.

Chyawanprash

Why not go Ayurvedic while in India? It works and it's super cheap ! Chyawaynprash is available at every medical shop; it's a kind of ayurvedic jelly made mostly of amla, chock full of vitamin C and tastes a bit like blackberry jam mixed with marmite. Just eat a spoonful with meals.

Also, spirulina is widely available and is full of proteins and minerals.

Good suggestion since my husband does not do pills easily.
I have osteoporosis and need extra calcium...does either of the two you suggested provide calcium?

Chyawanprash - unsolicited testimonial

Note: I have no interest at all in promoting this product and it is available in many brands. So, in answer to yr question, yes it appears that Chyawanprash has a great deal of calcium. My favorite, and the most widely found, brand is Dabur, but there are half a dozen more including Himalaya. The main thing you want is lots and lots of Amla, aka Indian gooseberry.
