Buying medication

I am headed to India for 6 months in July and my travel medicine kit is running low. However I live in Japan and medicine is not cheap or in english. Can I easily buy the basics(pain relief, rehydration, cold, flu etc in a major Indian city?

Indeed you can but it's a good idea to get pharmacological name of the drugs or the formulation name, so that the chemists can suggest the equivalent generics. Brand name ones, you should not have an issue

be careful though when you point to the crotch

reminded me of a story from while back..not too long ago.....we bought some spanish-fly from one of the roadside chemists to give to my boss who was a dictator..the plan was for all of us to run away after dropping it in his coffee...but he was fired before our scheduled rendevous with his drink...never got to test it..

...very poisonous stuff, not a good idea!

Another ruse once popular with med students, I believe, is potassium permanganate in someone's drink. Turns the urine bright purple.

But I have no idea about side effects, dangers etc... so I offer this as an anecdote ...not as advice

Malaria

From the above IM thread

" Proguanil is available in Delhi.
I was able to purchase Paludrine from a chemist in the Paharganj main bazaar in Delhi. It has been pointed out on this site that Paludrine is difficult to find in India, and I found this to be true to an extent. However, I was able to find it and a 4 week supply was only around three dollars US."
