bugs and lizards been in bhopal for six months now...assuming my legal status is approved, what can i expect for the summer and monsoon as far as critters are concerned? i saw a cockroach as big as my big toe (and i have mighty big feet) and a lizard about four times bigger than that. there are two geckos in my room now that i know of-i feel like i am getting crowdd out of here. is this their breeding season or will it get worse? yes, i know geckos eat insects...but this room is too small for all of us! i am confronting my phobias... ![]()

Salima, I hear you on the geckos/lizards. I have a lizard phobia too. Not to add to your problem, but on my last trip to India (about a month and a half ago), I was at the Government rest house inside Corbett, while entering the bathroom, a lizard fell on my arm from the top of the door - it was scary seeing that thing sitting on my forearm. I eventually doused it with a bucket full of water - it never returned after that....guess they don't like water that much - you may wanna try that. Also, I think you can get some lizard and bug repellent if you ask around. I remember my relatives using it while I was there. peace.

How about a mosquito net. If I were living in India for a while I would have a mosquito net in my room. It's like a tent enclosing your bed so at least that part of your room is a haven. Sweep or get your room swept once a day.

hi samsara- the room gets swept and 'mopped' once a day. i am hoping lizards dont want to get in bed with me...egads. the mosquitoes used to sit on the outside of the net in the homes where i lived-i wonder why the lizards didnt crawl onto them-or maybe they did when i was sleeping! there dont seem to be any mosquitoes in this room...

I hope you get to have an electric fan to cope with the monsoon and summer. Don't try to do too much in that season. The siesta after lunch is recommended. I hope you have shutters on your room windows. Shutters during the heat of the day so the room is dim and dark and then open the shutters during the cool of the night . Oops, I just realised leaving the windows open at night in a city might not be such a good idea...but you can do it until you go to sleep.

actually there is a ceiling fan and a cooler, and they are willing to put in an air conditioner and setr up a se[parate electric line that i would pay for myself if this isnt enough. but i dont anticipate a problem there. what worries me is the monsoon. especially what i am hearing about staph infections, what is that all about? because of the grungy stuff floating around in the standing water that one has to walk through getting into cuts you already have on your feet or legs?
