By supplements I mean things like multi-vitamins and cod liver oil and not prescription drugs.
Would I need some documents along in case I bring supplements in slightly large quantities eg 5-6 bottles.
No problem for supplements unless they are in commercial quantities . Incidentally, most supplements are available here at a lower price than abroad. India is a big exporter of the base ingredients that go into supplements.

As far as supplements for weight training, they are ridiculously overpriced here in India, and that's if you're lucky to find them. I paid 3,200INR for a simple pre-workout supplement which could be bought for $25 in the US. When I go back in a couple months I will be stocking up on these to bring back.

Indjun, I think OP is not talking about weight-training supplements ( do you mean those steroid based drugs, which have a lot of controversy surrounding them?} Natural vitamins, minerals etc. in supplement pill form are not at all expensive here, in fact a lot cheaper than other countries.

No, no steroid-based drugs here... just the typical protien, amino acids, etc. suplements... perfectly legal.

Yes, I know what he was talking about, that's why I clarified my comments as weight training supplements.

Thanks for clarification, Indjun! When you mentioned high price my mind jumped to the others.. amino acids etc... I guess that's where the price goes. An area about which I know nothing really (weight training supplements) except what I've seen on TV documentaries..

I know that many vitamins retailed in Australia are manufactured in India, but we've been told that the formulations sold here, and made in India, are not necessarily available within India itself; and if they are will certainly be more expensive there.

Think I'll 'play it safe' and take my supplements back to India (whence they came!!) with me.

In the newspaper the other day...

"latest research" (sorry, I don't recall any further detail) indicates that those who take vitamin supplements may die younger .

Never worries me, when unattributed. What does worry me is being in my late 60's, and having a parent who endured macular degeneration (the leading cause of blindness in the elderly).

I'll continue taking 'Macuvision', a formulation clinically proven in the readily available AREDS results, to lessen the likelihood of the onset of MD.

Check out AREDS* - an easy Google will find it.

* (The Age-Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS) is a major clinical trial sponsored by the National Eye Institute, one of the Federal government's National Institutes of Health.)

Macuvision?

It's a Blackmore product in Australia - though other manufacturers in other countries produce the same (or very similar) formula, probably under their own name for it.

The vitamin pill/reduced life span thing was attributed, of course: just I don't remember it.
