Question Bottled Water

A year or so ago there was a huge "upset" about bottled water in India. I've read several reports and articles on line by agencies who conducted tests in the archives so I'm not really looking for a debate but just wondered if anyone can update me on the situation now. Like anyone know if its been corrected? I have read that HIMALAYA Bottled Water(has a pink label) used to be the "water of choice", however, it was also under investigation and found to have contaminates.
thanks.

I think the big concern is over mostly over pesticide residues in various brands rather than bacterial contamination, but I'm not sure. For the casual traveler, traces of pesticide residue are probably not particularly dangerous, especially when compared to all the other things we are routinely exposed to everyday, and I don't just mean when we are in India. But for people who live in India or stay long-term and drink bottled water, I guess pesticide residue is more of an issue, but I don't have any up-to-date info.

They all taste the same to me. Three years ago I tried to stick to Kinley water because someone told me it had a good reputation for safety. It's bottled by Coca Cola. I drank Bisleri, too, because it was available everywhere.

This year, Aquafina (a Pepsi Co. product) was all over the place, but I didn't bother trying to stick to any particular brand or brands. I just drank whatever the shop or restaurant had, so I drank the ubiquitous Aquafina, Kinley, Bisleri, Himalayan, Ganga, Manali ... whatever ... even the Indian Railways brand they sell at train stations. I didn't get sick from any of it. I just made sure the bottle cap was sealed. And it all tasted fine to me, but I'm not a bottled water snob, so what do I know?

Rough Guide says a study found Kinley, Bisleri and Aquaplus to be the worst bottled water brands in terms of pesticide concentration...

I bought a bottle of "water" from a small town. To my absolute disgust, I was vinegar! Boy was my face red. I thought I was poisoned for a second. I should of noticed the smell as soon as I opened, but, who really smells the water before they drink?

Here is a link of a test (for pesticides) conducted on Indian packaged water. Pesticdes are most difficult to remove as they cannot be removed by RO. The related info starts on page 23

Even the studies that rate various brands of beverages cannot be trusted and should not be take at face value. If you have faith in the Coca Cola Corporation, go for Kinley. Industry rivalry and NGOs seeking their place in the sun have made the whole pesticide contamination issue a messy controversy that is best avoided.
Rail Neer is bottled by a division of Indian Railways, which gives it official sanction, but that's it. Always make sure the seal on the bottle is intact; that may ensure its drinkable pure water and not tap water filled in a recyled bottle. And before throwing away the bottle, do remember to crush it!

I got these iodine drops, they purify 280 litres I think.

I tasted the water once I added the iodine and it tasted slightly medical. However, after adding the neutralising tablets it tasted fine.
