Bird flue finally hits India

Today's head lines scream bird flu. Nearly 40000 chickens died in farms in the Nvapur tehsil of Maharashtra. The strain is H5N1. Health exparts have warned against unnecessary panic. As per them only people with direct contact with poultry face risk. The fat cells of the virus get destroyed in contact with soap only not just water. Meat & eggs cooked at or above 70 degrees C destroy the virus so eating properly cooked poultry & eggs isnt unsafe. Egg nogs, egg flips & mayonese are to be shunned.

Don't suppose the media will take any notice of that

The local dailies are shouting with joy, double whammy demolition of buidings in Delhi & now bird flu. Later in the day after the papers have reached all house holds I will peep in to the "hyginic chicken corner" in our locality to see what mayhem has been unleashed. I am sure to find a very depressed owner sulking behind the counter, I might buck him a bit by buying one & become a sight walking back home with a chicken in full view. Passer by's will hurridly leave the street & duck in the alleyes, careful people will carefully maintain a 250m distance & I will return home.

Jyotida:

This is sure good to show support for the poor of the poultry industry but given the speed and efficiency of response of our govt health services, should this H5N1 become trans-species... at least add a few tablets to that curry.
(not joking)

Unfortunately not only the food industry, this will lead to a lot of cancellations of tickets so the travel industry will also bear a loss.

The media is good at that, driving people into 'unnecessary panic'! Yet another country's tourism sector hit by dreadful propaganda! :s

I doubt that. The bird flue has already spread to most of the world. Does not make much of a difference where you go. And it does not seem to have been a problem for Thailand, the tourist arrivals where up again in Thailand last year.
