About covering up, the key is with loose-flowing clothes like the Capt & mckay mention. I've always thought the reason is that enough fabric will be able to move around and create little 'micro-breezes' as well as protection from the sun. And/or add a layer of air-insulation?

Is it possible to buy these clothes when we get there? Our trip starts in Europe, then Cairo, Petra, and then India. So, we thought we could buy climate-appropriate clothing once we arrive in each place. We're planning on packing some clothing of course but not too much. Would you advise against this?

That actually sounds like a logical solution - it helps the local economy, you get clothing that is suited to your needs and you have mementos of the places you have visited (ie. the clothing).

Cheers

hah I live in Canada and yep, I have tried this sweaty yoga. I didn't know my shins could sweat before I tried it! It feels really great in the winter, like stretching in a sauna after coming in from -20c weather. But I don't know why someone would want to do it in the summer...

Has anyone experienced Mumbai in May? I know it will be hot but it was unfortunately the only time I could book to go visit my friends there, as I am a college student and time bound. I would appreciate ANY advice!!

Well, my best remedy so far is sattu. Being stuck in Bihar and Jharkand last month doing my bit for the elections was a HOT experience. In the heat for 10+ hrs/day drinking 5+ litres of water (and not needing to go to the toilet at all?! ) called for some drastic action. I was onto the WHO rehydration salts for a few days, but they were making me feel quite sick -maybe I had a few too many sachets too quickly during the day?

So a Bihari told me about sattu, ground chick pea (gram?) flour. I think I mixed around 3 or 4 tbspns in a litre of water, added some salt and sugar, tho have heard you can add chilli, onion and lemon too. Didn't taste that bad, and SOMEHOW it worked, just sipped a few litres of that mix and a few litres of water, and felt MUCH cooler all day long. I was told it helps to lower your internal temps somehow thus prevent heatstroke. And it also seems to be like a protein shake, pretty filling, so all in all a handy flour

Thanks sattuu

and I am dosing up on it again now in this Ludhiana heat!!
