I'm only going to be in Mumbai and Delhi for about 10 days in June. I'm considering NOT getting any jabs. Is this silly on my part?

Yes - I would recommend you discuss this with your PCP... Maybe the innoculations you've had previously will still provide protection.

Yes, it depends when you had your last shots. You have been to India before, so chances are you don't need any more now, or not many ...

Your could catch something nasty within hours of arriving. Dave

While hardly rural, cities with their concentrated masses, commuters, constant migration, etc., are ideal locations for things to spread once they do (witness the meningitis scare -- I think it was -- in Delhi a few years ago, seems to be a recurring event anyway). And in summer, possibly monsoon...? Take the other's advice to heart.

Knock on wood, but I've been traveling for years and have never gotten shot's or taken malaria meds, etc..
Maybe I'm just lucky, but never had nothin' worse than a bad case of diarrhea. And been to India 4 times. Though it's always better to be safe than sorry. |

Sure. The thing is never what happens if you don't fall ill though... it's what happens if you do. But -- to each their own, I guess OP had already gotten that far

10 days in June and only in Mumbai and Delhi - flying between cities?? At this time extreme heat kills most mosquitoes so shouldn't worry too much about mosquito borne diseases, but the ones you should worry about are hepatitis, typhoid spring to mind. Your doctor can advise - I wouldn't be too complacent about these. You could risk the malarials - if you are unlucky seek treatment fast, would be what I would do.

Delhi? Maybe you are right - but the last few years July has been when the real monsoon arrives - prior to that there are pre-monsoon showers. When were the huge floods in Mumbai 2 yrs back?
If June, then think seriously about your anti-malarials, but for 10 days only??? Divided opinions on this (see poll) don't take and get treatment or take chemicals which may be needless? Take professional advice from medical expert... |

Quite. He was asking about jabs though, not malaria meds.
