Ayurvedic treatment for indian rates
Hi,
I am looking for an ayurvedic hospital. No spa/resort etc., but a normal hospital to undergo treatment. I have searched at Google and at indiamike.com, but I have not found any place, which would charge less than 50 USD (=2000 INR, =32 EUR) per day. That seems a bit too much for me, I look for a cheaper place. Besides I can hardly believe that an average Indian person pays 50 USD for a day of treatment, compared to allopathic hospitals this seems a bit overpriced. I already thought about another option: go to a tourist place, rent a cheap room and undergo treatment on outpatient basis - would be much cheaper. But I still hope somebody can suggest a hospital with reasonable charges. |

There is a good Ayurvedic hospital in Trivandrum, Kerela. The cost is £600.00 a month for treatment. Thats without accommadation.
You should be able to rent something quite reasonable in Trivandrum. |

I don't think that's what locals would pay. 48,000 for a month? without accomodation? A relative of one of my wife's friends just had a heart operation for less than half that!
But if you are seriously looking for something at the price the man-on-the-street pays, you may not be very comfortable!

Sure! But not in the least relevant!
This guy is looking for a place that prices for the local economy, not the tourists |

Interesting Nick, are you saying a large hospital in Trivandrum would have two rates one for locals and one for tourist.
If so how does one go about paying the local rate ? |

No, I'm saying that some places market themselves to tourists, or even well-off locals!
Chris makes a point that he is not looking for luxury and air conditioning and all that, so he should certainly be able to find somewhere cheaper. Trouble is, such places may well not have an internet presence, so he may only find it through local knowledge. There is plenty of Ayurveda practised for local people; clinics at least, I don't know about hospitals. I will, by the way, try to remember to ask my wife. She's usually away weekends. She has consulted with an aurvedic doc only last week. |

I wonder what kind of Ayurvedic treatment you would want to get that is worth so much money. In Delhi with Dr. Triguna, one of India's most famous and reputed Ayurveda doctors, you would pay around Rupees 800-1400 for 3-weeks worth of medicine, depending on the conditions you need to get treated. But with Ayurveda you need to take treatment for many months, which alone will add up quite a sum.
There are crooks who ask large sums for churnas (powders) which you would get over the counter for a fraction of the price. There are all kinds of business-minded practitioners out there who take people for a ride (Indians as well as Westerners), and take as much money as they can. Why does OP want a hospital? Do you think of Pancha Karma? Even that does not have to be overprized. The few treatments you might need (if at all, and that requires to be ascertained first before you choose a hospital), you do not need a month for. In other words: go carefully about it. Start with the diagnosis, and then only the decision how to treat it best. |

I was hoping someone who knew something about it would join in.
Our member Kiranlal is also in the field, but I haven't seen him around for a while. |

Where we live there are numerous places offering ayurvedic treatments for tourists for rejuvenation, but there is also a hospital that actually treats people with certain ailments. In this particular hospital, where the ayurvedic doctor has been practising for 20 years, the prices are less than half the price levels in the tourist joints. Price example: My partner needed treatment for a trapped nerve in the shoulder. The treatment, on an outpatient basis, would cost on average Rs. 400 a day for two weeks. The treatment consisted of 1 to 1½ hours massage a day. There will be an ayurvedic hospital in every town in Kerala offering low cost treatments. |
