discover your dosha

http://www.yogajournal.com/health/49...m?ctsrc=nlv162

the above link contains a very simple questionaire on finding out your ayurvedic dosha, whether you are pitta, kapha, or vata. Remember that this is a simple test, for fun, and is not conclusive-- ayurveda is the sister science of yoga and is just as vast a subject as yoga is.

Talking

Ok,

Himalayas has products for enternal application as well as for internal application.
It may be true - they use a combination of ayurveda and preservative that may be artificial.

I dunno if there are completely natural preservatives.

But, their products are a 1000 times better than cosmetics available in the local markets.

hi yogagal.

the problem about these tests is that most people (at least 70 percent) are supposed to be a mix of 2 or 3 doshas (i almost wrote dosas)

even experts are sometimes unsure.
my ayurvedic doctor first said i was vata, then vata pitta, then pitta vata and then pitta...

and we're talking about a person who has a degree in ayurveda and over 20 years of practice.

though the prakriti tests (if they are good) should show the two predominant doshas, they can also show the derangement so they can be confusing. most ayurvedic doctors incorrectly say that i am pitta, and although i have some fire, i am nearly pure vata.

while i agree that himalaya products are a cosmetic line, i feel that they have merit and are of good quality and much preferable to the alternatives out there.

doshas can vary

see in general practice peopel use ayurveda for there cure so in my experinace no patient never asked me what is my dosha when i was studying or undergoing my training in Govt Ayurveda collge trivandrum.
the most buissiest Ayurvedic hospital inthe word .

and when i start working with my westernes they were start asking me about there doshas and i have to find even though it was not clinically that important .

achually the dshas or the body constitution is like DNA
it is different for differnt peopel
but it is constantly affected by the nature nd time ,
it changes in 12 hours
as the time passes throught e periods of doshas
and then the season of the year
lunar phase of the moon
age
digestion of the food
phase of the disease
and for soem people there combinations are so close , so it may be difficult to tell exactly
and the calculations on the bsais of percentages are allmost fake .

i was lean (very lean ) wheni was a student i was a typical vatha at that time
now i am bit fatty so my friends swearing that i am kapaha pitah
soem times i am ver y hot and angry , so they blame my pitha

so there willbe some changes
but the basic constitution will be un altered but its reaction will be fluchuating , i hope so

I was pretty sure Nick H had explained about Tamil "drum sticks" somewhere but can't find it back. Might need some explaining before people get kinky with chicken legs or their drum kit

kiranlal - i think having a working concept of the predominant inherent doshas provides people with a framework towards a healthier lifestyle. maybe it is the western mind that needs this, but i think that it is quite useful. personally speaking, learning how to balance my elements with food, routines and such has proved of great value. as an example, not indulging in daily raw salads has really helped my digestion and trying to get to bed before pitta strikes helps with insomnia, etc. ayurveda is amazing!

btw - your avatar is quite vata!

I would suggest to select one or two in the list of home spices, as you cant all of them everyday. I picked up dry ginger-lime from ISCON krishna temple and use it as mouth freshner.

All most all aryurvedic medicines work best when taken with very light food or empty stomach. Taking warm lemon+honey drink on empty stomach in the morning is sort of cure all. Flushes out poisons from body and builds up immunity.

Talking Drumstick is a vegetable...

Hello People,

Seems like all people here got 'Drum Stick' wrong. I am not talking of the stick with which you play drums - the musical instrument.

Drum stick is a vegetable. It is long and is like stick. It grows on the drumstick tree. This tree grows extensively in south India. And the tree's leaves and flowers are also used in Cooking and have healing properties....and are said to increase sexual desire.

I am not sure if the drumstick tree grows in North India and in other parts of the world.

In south India, as the tree grows very easily, and the drum stick sambar is almost like staple diet in this part of town, all homes have drum stick trees and coconut trees. Newly married couples are fed on dishes made with drumstick.

I have personally consumed drumstick in various forms, as cooked vegetable and in Sambar, i am not sure, if it did any thing to me...

Talking Clove / beter nut prevents Nausea

One more i remembered.

When you travel in a bus or cab, up hill, we experience motion sickness and nausea....it can be cured if you have betel nut or a clove inside your mouth.

You are not to chew and swallow the betel nut or clove. You are to keep it in your mouth...that's it.

It helps.

Hmm wonder what that tells you about the local lovelife

Found the drumsticks and the trees here, still not found any alternative names or translation in my own language though. Apparently they are common in South India, other parts of Asia and in Africa.
