Ayurveda / Body Massage in Kochin
Hello everybody,
I will be in Kochin next week and I thought about getting some ayurveda treatment / body massage. Can anybody recommend a place in Kochin and what would be a good price for some basic wellness treatment? Does it have to be booked in advance? Will a body massage be acceptable for a male (it definitely is in Europe). Thank you for your help! |

Body massage is acceptable of course. Question would be correctly posed, if asked whether female would be massaged by male, which happens too but is inacceptable by Indian standards. Strictly male by male, female by female.
An oil massage is approx. Rs 400. In a luxury setting expect it to be more. Generally no long-term pre-booking required. Many businesses waiting for customers. Just book the day before, or mornings for afternoon, or whatever suits. I do not know any addresses in Cochin itself. I did some at Cherai-Beach, outside Cochin. Cannot recommend. Supposedly you have to do a sequence of about ten sessions of oil-massage, which I did once somewhere else with a master from Kerala, with no great result. |

i had a fantastic massage in fort kochin by a guy from cafe moksha which was a wonderful little cafe on a street near princess street (i'll try and find the actual address, i have a card somewhere)
he was called churet (or something similar) my boyfriend and i both got massages and even as a girl it wasn't really weird to have a man massaging me, he was very professional and asked if i was feeling comfortable etc. the massage was 1000rps (so rather pricey) but was very long (my boyfriends lasted about 3 hours!) so leave enough time, even if he says it will only last about an hour and a half. it was painful at times because it was a thai yoga massage with ayurvedic principles so he was stretching my muscles a lot. even though it was at times unpleasant it was still enjoyable and for the first time in my two month trip to india i slept for the full night after i had the massage ![]() he also does pulse reading and tells you what type of person you are (i am a water type apparantly) and how this affects your body and what yoga moves would be good for your type. try the "fish fry" at the cafe, it was so tasty. also the kashi art cafe was nice for a snack if you're feeling peckish. |
