I'm preparing for my first trip to India and I'm a little short on Malarone. I read that a new generic is being manufactured in India and is available in the US (http://articles.economictimes.indiat...earing-licence).

Does anyone know if this generic is available in India?

No it isn't, at least not at this time.

Note "royalty bearing". It would be relatively expensive in India and may not be released widely in India if its allowed at all under the agreement. The restriction is to prevent buildup of resistance. It may be sometime before its available as a lower cost alternative in the US. Thanks for the article. I'll forward it to a cyber buddy who is big time on health..

OK thanks for the replies! Guess I'll shell out the extra $$ to pickup some more here in the US.

Good news about generic malarone.

If your US health insurance plan has a low-cost or no-cost co-pay for generics, atovaquone proguanil hydrochloride is available and an inexpensive alternative to malarone.

I just filled a prescription for it with my $0 generic co-pay from Blue Cross/Blue Shield Express Scripts plan and got it for free!
