I went in Oct/Nov. and the travel clinic where I went gave me the choice. They said unless I was travelling into rural areas, they didn't recommend it. I chose not to and I read about 3 cases that had occured in an area somewhat close to where I was, but it didn't really bother me. If 3 cases in such a populated country warranted an article in the paper, I figured that I had nothing to worry about. I would seek professional advice from someone who specializes in travel medicine. If it is something that you will worry about if you don't get it, then perhaps you should.

we're going to India at the beginning of October and the nurse at our doctor's surgery didn't say it was something we ought to have... Rabies yes, but not JE.

JE outbreak
Generaly JE vaccine isn't recommend for travelers who are going except in cases of going to rural areas. Nevertheless this year an outbreak of JE is occuring in a distrassing level, specially in the areaof Uttar pradesh. Yesterday only 21 people died of JE. The question is that is this situation is now a formal recomendation to vaccination. I hope i'm not worrying you but because i'm a medical doctor (not into travel medicine though) i'm a bit more paranoid about this kind of things...
I sent an email to a world health organization representative and i'm waiting for an answer. I'll make a post once i have. Thank you Ricardo |

I got the vaccine. I didn't really want to, but the nurse at the health clinic recommended it because of where I am traveling. I don't think I am going anywhere too rural, so now I wonder if I should have held off.
When she told me there was still no cure, and that the lining of your brain is eaten away, I didn't see the point in taking that risk. It is a series of three injections, totaling almost $300 USD ![]() |

And I did'nt get it! My friend, who went to the same clinic a few days later, got it. But she's going back in December to live in Dehli for a year. We're going to Goa and probably Lakshadweep, should I reconcider? |
