Anyone have a seizure after they came back?
I know that is a strange question but I'm trying to research ALL my options! I had a Grand Mal seizure 3 weeks after I returned from my 3 week trip to India. Nothing unusual happened but it was stressful (meeting my in-laws for the first time). I hit my head on the faucet trying to wash my hair but I don't think it was hard enough to produce a seizure after 3 weeks.
Has this every happened to anyone before? Did you get diagnosed with anything. The doctors don't suspect any tropical diseases (but they don't know everything). I've done the 6 day video EEG, MRI, and CAT scan. Seizures aren't even common in my family so this is really weird! Now my husband says I'm not going to go back with him to visit his family in the future. I DON'T THINK SO !!!!!! I plan on going with him the next time if whether he likes it or not! He is afraid I may have one while we are there. Anyway .... Please let me know if you know anything about this! |

I'm wondering if someone had a bug bite or drank something that may have a germ or SOMETHING. I'm not saying India caused it, what I'm asking is ... did something happen in India to someone else that caused their seizures and were they diagnosed. Is there something that not too many people know about? Doctors can't know every possible thing, maybe theres a doctor out there somewhere that knows of this happening and someone on this site had it diagnosed.
Does this make sense ![]() |

I think it must be something unique to you, Lokie. I've never heard of this happening to anyone I've known in some 30+ years of India travel.
Hope you're feeling okay now... |

Your best bet is going to be to search here: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi and then get the real articles that are relevant at your local research/university library. It doesn't sound in anyway related to your trip to India.

I am 38 and had a grand mal seizure for the first time this summer after hitting my head. I have also been to India. The two are not related. After CAT scans etc. the conclusion was, I hit my head, thus causing a seizure. (and a bit of a scene at the grocery store where it occured. It was scary but I have met several people who have had a single seizure and never had another occurance.
