Hi folks,

This question is not specifically for Pune region but for all India. I am posting it here because supposedly there are a ton of techies in Pune (and my parents live in Pune).

I came across a very disturbing episode with my parents. My mother has a gastrointestinal disorder (I have inherited that disorder so well aware of it) and hence she should not be taking certain type of medications. This doctor, Dr. Uma Alurkar at Baner, prescribed her exactly same class of medication which resulted in upsetting her gastrointestinal disorder a big time (Yes, my mom did mention her about this disorder). I am absolutely clueless how a doctor can make such a simple mistake. I would like to leave a 'review' for this doctor.

I know for fact that this review will probably be left buried in the web and hardly any Indian patient will check it before consulting her. Medical profession in India is probably worse than prostitution (for cost and ethics purpose). There are ton of such cases take place daily in India and really nobody cares but I do not want to let it go.

I am curious to know if there are any website for doctors in India, like ratemds.com in the US.

Thanks in advance.

(P.S. - If anybody is interested in the details of this issue, here it is. My mother is a patient of Ulcerative colitis. These patients should not take NSAID class of medications for pain. My mother was prescribed Lornoxicam, which belongs to NSAID class of medications. Now, my mother went into full colitis flare, that was in remission for last 15 years.)

CA Note - This thread has been shifted to a more appropriate forum.

You think people go to the website(s) and decide which doctor to choose ? I would and have not picked a doctor based on ratemds.com or similar sites.

Remember there were doctors and clients chose them before web based technologies became popular.

Word-to-mouth is still the name of the game.

True, clients used to (and still do) choose doctors before web based technologies became popular because there were/are no other options.

Certainly if something like this comes up, it will be easier to choose doctors as you will be getting personal feedbacks and the reach of technology is always far more than anything else. Obviously, you need to apply your judgement skills here too in which feedback to believe in and in which not as you do so when receiving the same personally.

I am not aware of any such website. But I would suggest like before going to any doctor what can one do is doing some research on the web. Like one can see some health forums (like indusladies.com) and try different googling methods. It had been useful for me in finding some good doctors in a particular region.
Like once I wanted to know about good ENTs in chennai. And after research, i got to know abt the best in the region and some facts about them.

Interesting that my previous reply (and one more reply by ramya55) has been deleted !!! Question to mods, is free speech controlled here? I doubt I had any objectionable in the post (else, please report)

An update,
My mother talked to the doc and now she claimed that my mother did not tell about her Ulcerative colitis. Giving her a benefit of doubt, she changed the medication, gave some advice about which medications should be taken or not taken and did not charge a consulting fee (which IMO is rare).
