Another vaccination question
I also have a question about vaccinations.
My mother is going to visit me in March for about a month. She's 70 and has never been in India before. I will pick her up at Mumbai airport with a taxi and we will drive straight to my flat. Since she's elderly and is not really an adventourous person we won't travel around the country, just do a bit of sightseeing in my city. She is asking me: 'Do I really need all those vaccinations?' I had send her a list which didn't exactly make her jump for joy Diphtheria/Tetanus/Polio booster Hepatitis A und B Typhiod Meningitis Cholera So what do you think? Does she need them all? We won't do any funny stuff, just drive around a little, go shopping, sit in a Cafe or restaurant ... |

As was noted on the other thread, I'd advice your mother to speak to her own doctor or (travel) health clinic. While advice between doctors and different countries will definitely vary, as well as the cost of vaccinations, at least they should theoretically know what they're talking about. Speaking to travellers you'll find no two with the same opinions on malaria, cholera, etc., and it will be hard to judge why they feel a certain way about it. As my travel medical booklet put it, "malaria must be the single one most contentious topic among travelers," and this could easily be transposed to any of the other diseases.
Good luck with it, those doctors won't bite ![]()

I would recommend at least :-
Diphtheria, Tetnus, Polio (Combined Jab - Revaxis) Hepatitis A and B (Combined Jab - Twinrix) Typhoid (Available as an Oral vaccine) Speak to the local travel clinic about other requirements including Maleria. Dave |
