I could find you someone in Chennai too --- but I guess that would hardly be convenient
.I meant to mention, by the way, though in no way qualified to do so, that I'm sure a homoeopath would be able to treat the mental and emotional shock aspects.

About those hospitals, I haven't seen this one of course but in general they may not look quite like you're used to, but those people should still know what they're doing. Well, any doctor or nurse anywhere can do something wrong of course. Hoping for a speedy recovery! btw Thanks for that medical site you linked to Hans, looks good.

hey everyone. so the docs who i went to all said i should get surgery if i want to guarantee that i will be able to move my finger normally again. its an angular displaced fracture and i need to have a metal rod put in to keep the bones in place.
so I've decided my best bet where i can get the best care is in Delhi. Anyone know if there are hand-specialists there? could any one give more details about East West Medical? I've read a bunch about Apollo... |

You need a good orthopedic guy, methinks, if it is displaced. There will be quite a few in Delhi.
Concentrate on getting a good doctor, and go to the hospital he operates in (a good guy will not operate in some hole in the wall, so relax)- that's my best advice. I know one excellent guy but he only does knees. If you know somebody living in Delhi, they should be able to advise- or check up with their doctors who is a good guy, and where. Delhi-ite indiamikers may be able to help, but, that is, in the end, a strangers recommendation. The best recommendation is the one you will get from somebodys trusted doctor. |

Hmm.
In India, even for a relatively minor surgery, it is much, much better to have somebody around. Of course, one can go to a corporate hospital (apollo, max, sitaram bhartiya types) but even then... These hospitals, specially in Delhi, tend to fleece patients to varying degrees; but they generally have competent doctors. Be aware, however, that one or two big names in Delhi have treated my immediate family almost callously, which is another reasonwhy I say a good doctor first, the hospital afterwards. A big name sometimes is like an empty vessel. Makes the most noise. Good luck. |

From their site, it looks like they don't only work with a vast network of physicians and hospitals (check under "network"), but they also have physicians who can make house calls or visit patients in hospital. If you're all alone, it might be nice to have someone like that come check on you. I've no idea what their procedures are, but they list a 24/7 alarm number (under "contact us"). Might be worth contacting them. Agree about first-hand referrals though, but for lack of that, this might be an avenue. Good luck with it. ps I guess your (or any) embassy could also be a place to ask for referrals? |

Sorry to hear about your injury. Hope its a quick recovery
On a selfish note, i found your post was a result of a search for rafting in rishikesh this time of year. I am supposed to be going this weekend and the weather looks great. So...when you say you went off a mountain in a sudden storm...It concerns me a bit. Was this a total fluke ? Did you have a guide? Was he/she competent in the situation? I like any info/advice so that i dont have to ask about treating broken bones in India ![]() Thanks! |

It was a total fluke, a huge rock just happened to fall from the mountain onto my hand. we had a guide but they did not seem very well trained or prepared in emergency medical situations to be honest. they said it was the first time anything like that ever happened with their trips and i don't know what he/they (the company) would have done had it been a more serious injury... perhaps thats why they were so nice to me afterwards |
