actual cost of travel shots

Since there are a number of postings of people asking the approximate cost of travel shots, where to get them, etc., I thought I would post my information.

Got my shots in July and just received my final bill from my doctor. Keep in mind that (1) this is a doctor's office, not a travel clinic or a health department; (2) the location is suburban Chicago so cost will be different wherever you are in the US; (3) cost in US dollars.

Hep A -- $55.00
tetanus -- $28.00
Polio -- $47.00
nurse's cost to administer shots -- $55.00

My health insurance paid the majority of this bill, your health insurance may not cover travel shots.

sorry, can't remember the exact cost of my typhoid meds, as I took the oral vaccine so it came directly from the pharmacy, but I do remember the cost was under $60.

Same here. The NHS is great for jabs.

I did get confirmation the employer health plans do cover these vaccines. To be more specific, ManuLife.

Here in Australia the shots can be an expensive exercise. My partner went to the travel doctor here and was charged over $300 Australian for just for the basic polio booster, influenza, typhoid/hepatitis A. My own GP was much cheaper! Our private health insurer re-imburses us about $20 per shot - not very much.

I've already posted this in someone else's question about the vaccinations, but honestly, just do it yourself! (not the actual jabs errr unless you're a nurse ... !)

Do the research, talk to your doctor, get the scripts, buy the medicine from a discount pharmacy and go back to your doctor!

No travel clinic required! Half the price and still the best advice cos its your doctor who knows your allergies and whatnot!

Too easy!
