Well, it is a broad spectrum antibiotic so as a first aid measure it doesn't sound unreasonable. When I had an abcess I seem to recall that I had to complete a course of antibiotic before I could go back to my dentist so he could deal with the cause.

Unless it clears up very quickly and completely, I'd go see a dentist anyway.

Teeth don't abcess from bad food; please see a dentist right away.

agree with wonderwoman. an abcessed tooth is nothing to mess around with because the infection can affect the bone holding the tooth. not to scare you, but a bad enough infection from an abcessed tooth can get into your blood, too.

go to the dentist.

Why use a chemist for a dentist? Sounds like the chemist should have recommended better flossing and sold the floss..

That's why you need a dentist

Why? That's what dentists did at medical school. You can certainly get yourself an x-ray, probably without referral, but hey, dentists learned how to interpret them. The dentist will probably take one anyway.

That's a question for medical pro.

In this instance... a dentist.

Hey, I hate dentists. Practicing educational psychology my parents bought me a record about the joy of going to a dentist. Inadvertantly I sat on it and got a tidy beating. But, I agree with Nick. A checkup and maybe a cleaning costs nickels and dimes in India. At that point you have some info to go on. Incidentally, I don't automatically go with further treatment. Twenty five years ago a former dentist got behind on his payments (I did his books) he suggested pulling my wisdom teeth. Still got 'em. Get a reference to a good dentist from a middle class Indian family..

Sounds to me like your tooth is just decayed perhaps. I have had abcessed roots due to dentist avoidance. You do not want an abcess. It involves pus. In your mouth. Do not mess around. Go to the dentist.

The deal is, you get the diagnosis and treatment plan off the disease expert (dentist) and then your prescription is provided by the medicines expert (pharmacist). You worryingly seem to have this the wrong way round.

(My dentist refused to pull my wisdom teeth. But then, NHS, so no financial incentive I guess)
