Question Inform yourself before asking the doc.

The site gives a reasonable overview of the health issues in India, but makes the mistake of repeating that often quoted advice to "consult your doctor."

The average family doctor in a UK health practice can't really be expected to have the specialist knowledge needed to give informed advice on vaccination/ prophylaxsis requirements for travel to India. Most likely they will refer you to a travel clinic (if you're lucky) or repeat outdated and inaccurate information they read while skimming through a magazine (if you are not so lucky).

You ought to inform yourself as widely as possible - an empowerment process - before you go to your own doctor. Consulting a specialist centre like one of the Hospitals For Tropical Diseases in the UK (good health info on their
Website) can give more detailed guidance, and they'll check you out if you have any unresolved problems after you get home.

Indeed

I agree,

However the site as first contact point to find out on curernt health information updates the vaccinations for different countries
The malarial zones and drug resistence is all very helpful

As for seeing your doctor
First contact should always be your doctor as they know your health record and situation...Any good doctor as mine is would recommended you also speak to tropical diseases unit
She gave sound advice and informed me of a number of websites
The site you gave above enhances the scottish one

Informed choices are all important in this area
Im travelling with a 4 year old in 3 weeks for a year in Asia and malaria is on my mind...I wont take the tablets and im willing to take this risk
As for my kid he cant make that choice and I need to make it for him hence my dilema...hence the more info i have the better

Anyway
Cheers for the link
