a travel insurance question
can anyone recommend any good travel insurance agents that`ll insure me over the web?
specifically, any UK based firms. There are so many out there and I don`t want to end up being insured by cowboys. Thanks! tanpopo |

Travel Insurance
In recent years we have used Worldwide Travel Insurance in Tonbridge, Kent. They came highly recommended to us by someone who travels professionally as a representitive for ABTA (Association of Bonded Travel Agents). They can tailor an individual policy for you depending on what you need. For example, you may not want cover for your belongings if they are already covered under a house insurance policy. They have also been approved by the UK consumer magazine WHICH.
We sought them out after we received an insurance quote from a well known budget travel company which came to more than the cost of two return air tickets to India! With Worldwide Travel the insurance we thought we needed worked out at about £20 per month and this included helicopter rescue in Nepal if we had an emergency! I think some companies work on the principle that you will not take the trouble to shop around. They probably make a lot more profit on the insurance than on selling you the flight. Don't know how they are on paying out as we have never had to make a claim but the WHICH approval must count for something. Hopefully everything will be fine and you won't need to claim. Their web site is http://www.worldwideinsure.com/ Good travelling |

If what U want is a web-based UK company, you can try www.egg.com. Egg is the web-based banking and insurance branch of pension funds giant Prudential. It's reliable.
Do not forget that some contracts are only open to UK residents (as the law of the contract will be the British one). If that is a problem for you, contact one of the major insurance companies of the country where you live - most of the time that is the most simple solution. Alan's solution sounds also worth trying. For all insurance related matters, take the time to read the wording of the contract before you sign. You can also ask questions to the hotline, notably on the definition of country at war, if you do not find them in the wording.
