A Question Thats Never Been Asked.........not
Hi
I know these types of questions have probably been done to death, but really apreciate the help. If i buy about quarter of my trips worth of doxy at home could i buy the rest in india cheaper and does it matter if the brand changes when i get to india or is it all good as long as its doxy? Also can i buy the following things in india and how much would i pay roughly? Doxy 3 months Mosquito net and impregnator (do you just spray the net with the impregnator? mosquito and insect reppeler spray (at least 30% deet) Is there any other precautions i should be taking 4 malaria? Thanks in advanced |

Malaria Pill Questions
Interested In Your Thread Also Need To Know About Malaria Precautions I Heard That As Of Today There Is No Malaria Present In India It Has Been Iraticated Does Anyone Know Anything About This And Also If We Take Our Doxy Do We Really Need To Be So Fenatical About Nets And Other Precautions, I Am Wondering How Overkill I Should Be With This Whole Malaria Thing, I Have Read All The Threads And Am More Confused. Also The Doxycycline Is An Antibiotic And Will It Kill All My Normal Bacteria In My Gut Therefore Making Me Way More Suseptical To Diarrhea Etc Etc.
I Had Planned On Doing The Acidophilis For A Month Or 2 Prior To Going To Get My Gut Ready And Full Of Good Bacteria For Fighting The Bad Bacteria In India |

Yes you can buy most of these things in India but a travel mozzie net and impregnator may be hard to track down, so you might want to consider buying this at home!!
I've seen nets for sale but they all looked a bit bulky to travel with!! Impregnator I've never come across but that doesn't mean to say it's not available!! I use a a mossie zapper that you plug in to a socket, instead of a net and it works fine for me but for that extra bit of safety the net may the way to go!! They cost about 70-80 rupees with a 45 day bottle of liquid! All the other stuff on your list is available in India, at a fraction of the price you would pay at home, I recommend Mosfree Lotion from Godrej, the best anti mossie stuff I've found!! Others swear by Odomos it's your choice, both work well. Wearing light clothing is supposed to reduce your chances of getting bitten but I've no science to back up this claim Taking a different brand of Doxycycline wouldn't be a problem I imagine, it's all the same antibiotic after all!! For prices have a look HERE Happy Travelling and by the way we love answering questions from a Newbie, even if it's the same one we've heard before, so keep em coming! Yeh... I'm fine with that. So long as they are split up into readable sections!

You can buy mozzie nets in Cananda so I assume elsewhere that are already impregnated with permethrin. The nets cost at least $20 more than the regular ones so I would buy a plain net and a bottle of permethrin spray, then you can spray your own net and still have some left to spray your pantlegs and sleeves.
Hard to find the permethrin in Canada but I know for a fact, I bought some today in Toronto at Europe Bound on King Street. It is also available mail order from the States. I am still trying to decide whether to make room in my quite small case for a net. Sue |

A strip of Doxy with 10 capsules is for about Rs. 40 (less than half a pound)
