So it´s more common than Aids then... Still it´s not common enough for knowing anyone who got it.

Not trying to sound ignorant...
I wonder what the statistics are? Are chances greater that you will be killed by a car crash or by malaria while in india? What do you think?

And would people take the "anti carcrash" pill if there was one?

I had pointed to some WHO India figures in post #12 of this thread. As they note:

Quote:
The reported incidence is between 2-3 million cases annually since 1984 with some fluctuation from year to year. The overall incidence of malaria in the country has shown a declining trend since 1987. The malaria situation in the country from 1996 onwards is given below.

Year -- Total Malaria Cases (in million) -- API [Annual Parasite Incidence (per thousand population)] -- [Plasmodium] falciparum cases (in million) -- Deaths due to malaria

1996 3.04 3.48 1.18 1010
1997 2.66 2.86 1.04 879
1998 2.22 2.44 1.03 664
1999 2.28 2.41 1.14 1048
2000 2.03 2.09 1.05 932
2001 2.09 2.06 1.01 1005
2002* 1.82 1.79 0.89 902
2003** 0.32 XXX 0.16 211
*provisional **figures till July '03

My tropical medicine doctor showed me the charts of the spread of the several forms of malaria before I left, and most of India was in the low danger zone - just the northeast near Myanmar was high. He advised to take along Malarone and use them only if I should actually get malaria, saying that local hospitals are used to treating it. Did so, and didn't get to use them. No regrets, would do it this way again.
