A little security tip....securing your backpack....
just wanted to mention this as i've never seen it mentioned anywhere, but forgive me if it has been...
in regards to securing my backpack with a cable on trains, hotel room ect...instead of looping it through the straps or whatever that can easily be cut with a knife, this is what i have decided to do... on my backpack, i've got a main zipper for the main pocket, and a smaller zipper for the smaller pocket. when zipped up, the 'metal zipper pull thingies' come close enough to each other so that i can use one small combonation lock to lock both pockets at once....now i use my travel security cable (aka, lightweight bike seat cable), and loop it through the now metal cage which is the 'zipper pull thingies', combolock, and zipper itself....i lock the cable with the padlock i have anyway to lock my hotel room....doing it like this means the theif will have to have something able to cut through metal to steal my pack....a knife won't 'cut' it....and if they do have something able to cut through metal, well, then they are probably gonna get it one way or another anyway.... or on second thought, if your cable has loops on the end, they might fit in the combination lock along with the 'zipper thingies'....that would serve the same purpose, and only require one lock...even better...just thought i'd share...peace.. jeremy Last edited by lazyvegan : May 2nd, 2004 at 17:39. |

I'm surprised that rucksack manufacturers don't include a metal loops for easy securing, instead of the sliceable grips.
Still, in safe India, a simple lock and a good shove under the lower berth has done the trick for me till now.

A critical time is the period before the departure of the train.
Secure your luggage immediately, do not just put it on the upper berth on the same side you are sitting.
