Yes,prices please? Alot of the times it's cheaper for us to pay for a flight to other countries to get treatment.

They are taxing syn now

I always used to get 'errors in syntax' in school. I never knew what they were.

Nowadays, I get errors in apostrophes/catastrophes.

Sorry, melly666. Back to the selective recommendations.

Sorry but in my financial situation I can't afford to be mislead to a dentist which is not up to standard then get a bank loan to correct the work back in the UK!

I am curious, can you give an indication of prices?
I was just looking through my medical receipts and I can't find that many from my dental appointments. I have one receipt that says, "consultation Rs.150". That must have been a cleaning. I don't recall ever walking out of there having paid more than Rs.700 or so, and that would have included either an x-ray or a filling, as well as a cleaning. I remember asking the dentist how much a root canal would be and I believe she told me around Rs.4000, which is so much less than in the States. If I lived abroad and knew I was coming to India I would definitely get dental work done here.

Speaking of medical bargains, I just saw a great dermatologist and had 13 moles removed and it only cost Rs.2000, for the whole deal! I was sure they meant it would be Rs.2000 each, so I had way too much money on me. If anyone wants the name of a great dermatologist in Delhi (Vasant Vihar), I'll post the info.

Cleaning should be considerably more than 150.

You're right, but I'm sure it wouldn't have been more than Rs. 500. Even when I had a filling done, I didn't pay more than Rs. 700 at the end of the appt.

Ok, I was a little off. I found my other two receipts:

One says "1 x-ray and sealing" and it was Rs. 900. The other was a big filling and that appt was Rs. 900.

Still, a bargain, I say.

That is far less than I paid for one to be done privately here in England.

Melly, 4000 rupees for one root canal is still more expensive than the contribution you would make to have all your fillings and root canal work done by an NHS dentist.

Really, it sounds like there are some great and inexpensive dentists in Delhi, but you said are already in agony. I'm concerned that you'll end up suffering a lot more on the flight. How long do you have to wait before you go?

Already have been to CAB.It does benefit the government cos if the client or their family don't pay then they have to sell their home and go to a nursing home for a ridiculous amount OR the government have to pay for their care!Get annoyed about things like not being able to get on an NHS dentist especially as I have to pay my normal NI AND 8% of my wage to NI as self employed and now they've just doubled our taxes on top.Get angry not getting nothing back from the system. If they gave us perks like free dental care or we got NHS treatment automatically it would be something!I'm also expected to pay private to get a scan I need as the waiting lists are too long in hospital as I may need an operation! Sorry,I'm going off the subject, this will just turn into a massive rant about the government!

Root canals can be a bitch, sometimes you need multiple appointments to get everything cleared out. I got one done in Bangalore last trip at a top notch hospital, more modern equipment than in Canadian dental offices, four appointments for 1800 Rs or $50 aprox CAD. It would have cost me $800 to $900 in Canada without any coverage.

The crown, another $800 to $900, cost $150. I have some coverage in Canada so I can get the drilling done, it's just considered a big cavity, but I cannot get crowns on that coverage so on an earlier trip I got two $125 crowns. All three are doing fine.

It might be more expensive in Delhi than Bangalore but probably nowhere close to what it would cost in England. Get the meds to knock down the infection and get to India. You can afford the very best crowns there.

I have found that the money I save on Indian dental care is worth more than half of the ticket to get there.
